Ok, so [livejournal.com profile] elo_sf the BBC has set the release date for Doctor Who series 2 as November 20, I believe our Xmas gifts for one another are a given again this year, don't you think? Also they've got a Cybermen boxed set in the shape of a Cyberman's head...if I didn't hate, hate, HATE them so very much for killing my beloved Adric I would be sorely tempted.

I would recommend that anyone who hasn't seen the season finale avoid my comments section because I hope that several of us can discuss it there. It was so fucking good. I mean, just amazing. It totally made up for the more crap-tacular episodes this season and was a fitting end to Billie Piper's run on the series.

So I did miss the Bauhaus/NIN concert Saturday, and I continue to attempt to find a silver lining to that. If I do come up with one I'll be sure to post about it. On the plus side, I suppose, my inability to eat most of the time now has made my whole weight problem a thing of the past. Although it does feel incredibly screwy to get on a scale and think, "Oh good my weight hasn't gone down any more, go me!"

Anyway, I still managed to have a mostly good weekend seeing lots of folks and helping [livejournal.com profile] ravenmb have what seems to have been a very happy birthday.

I missed you very much when we watched "Army of Ghosts" last Monday, when I squee'd a whole, whole lot over Dalek vs. Cyberman. I immediately wanted an icon that said "Dalek + Cybermen = OTP" but it's awfully spoilery and I couldn't really use it.

"Doomsday" felt like PotC2 for the first half; a fun, delightful ride with all sorts of action and great lines (Daleks are little bitches, aren't they?), and then the whammy at the end and all the crying (Christy and I were the big saps in our viewing room), and wow. Good, good stuff.

And I keep saying, "What? What? What?" like the Doctor at the end, which gives me great joy. I very much want to see the ep again!

I must say that it did my heart so much good to see the Daleks lay a serious smackdown on the Cybermen. I just kept repeating, "They kicked the Time Lords' asses, you honestly think these little tin-plated robots are going to stand a chance against them?" Heh, it was the ultimate in uber-geeking and answered one of fandom's longest running questions, in a very satisfying manner.

The other satisfying bit was how they wrote Rose out of the show, it felt right and actually somewhat less forced than last season's finale. I loved her ending up on alternate Earth with her whole family, and I didn't even mind being totally punked out of the Doctor finally admitting he loved her.

Just an all around hella good way to cap off the season.

Well, they could still argue that these are Alternate Dimension Cybermen, and only half a season of on-the-ground R&D had gone into them. I mean, they only *just* got rayguns. (:

I'm sorry but with that gold allergy and the lack of proper shielding, it was only right that the Daleks cut through them like a knife through butter. I have to say, though, that the "Yo mama!" bit between the two species was a highlight of the entire series.

And I don't argue with you. On either point. I personally kept thinking 'Oh honey please' and then wondering how you'd get a wig for a Dalek drag queen to hang properly.
And Torchwood! Full of Welsh accents!

I was delighted to see the Cybermen had ranged weapons, but even more amused (well, my "EEEEEEEEEE" might have seemed rather less than amused) when the Daleks turned up.

Their smack-talking sequence was utterly delightful ("Identify!" "Identify!"), and there were so many "whoa" moments throughout the ep as they fought and fought. Such fun.

I really liked Rose's end, too. I keep hearing people say they wish she'd just been killed off, and that this was a cop-out, but I totally felt the reverse, and was really satisfied by this. Plus, y'know, the "awwwwww" moment and "Ten needs a hug!" and all of that. o.O

I did get my Nine DVD set in the mail, and wanted to ask--are there more than the Confidentials and the Christmas Invasion preview included in your set, or was that it? I really like the packaging for this, and will have to bring it in to show you, next time I'm in town. Yay slimline!

I think that was all that was in mine, but I need to double check that. I'll try to remember to do so tonight.
