So I think I've developed an intolerance for nuts...which is brand new and highly unpleasant. Had some cashews on Sunday and Monday I paid for it, oh how I paid. Had my beloved Rama Thai with peanut sauce last night, and I got little sleep and woke up in serious pain. I called in, dropped the sisters at the train station and curled up fetal in bed until about 11. That seemed to help (though I suspect the not eating was what helped the most), and today it's all Gatorade all the time and a lot of doing nothing at all.

My digestive tract has become my worst enemy, this sucks so very, very much.

My sis tells me she's growing more and more intolerant of wheat gluten as well, which bodes ill for me as that's a major source of protein...particularly if nuts are now off the menu ;(

If you need anything, let me know. More Gatorade, perhaps? I am free all day and a short drive away, so it would be a snap. :)

I think I'm officially up to my ears in Gatorade, but thanks for the offer ;)

I first read:

I'm so sorry about your stomach, but happy for kindly Catholics ladies. /B-)

*laugh* Ah would that it were as simple as a nun-intolerance, I'd much prefer that to not getting to eat nuts again :(

Are there no over the counter gastrointestinal medications that will help with the symptoms so that you can at least function in a moderately normal way? It totally sucks that you have to be completely sidelined by this when you have the misfortune to eat something that you used to be able to eat.

What kind of foods seem to be doing this to you? If it's mostly particulate foods (seeds, nuts, corn, things that don't normally completely digest anyway) then you might want to consider getting tested for diverticulitis. That would mimic a lot of the gastrointestinal/ulcer-like symptoms, but can be taken care of with an antibiotic when you have a flare up. Might not be a bad idea to get tested for that anyway, even if just to rule it out.

I have no idea what that even is, what kinds of tests should I be asking for? Sorry, I'm a bit clueless about this.

Steve has a long history of diverticulitis and IBS, among other intestinal ailments. Here's a website on such matters, particularly diverticular diseases: http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/diverticulosis/

Ick! Hope you feel better soon.

As someone who has had their own share of GI troubles (oh, the stories I could tell!), I sympathize. Please try to see a doctor if you're not feeling better after a day of rest. If nothing else, you can get an allergy test and determine if it is a food allergy that's making you feel so awful.

Take care!

Thanks, it's nice to hear I'm not the only one with these issues. Sadly, my doctors have flat out told me they don't think I need any further tests, but this intestinal thing is brand new and somewhat disturbing so maybe I should at least talk to them again...

Augh, I'm so sorry to hear this, and am both glad and frustrated that I won't quite be there to help you out this weekend. I'll second the rounds of "if there's anything I can do," but in the meantime I'll talk to my mom and ask if she has specific test names (since diverticulitis is something she'd mentioned WRT you) that I can pass along to you, or something.

Allergy testing seems a must, though, and celiac would be a good thing to check for, too, I suspect.

Yeah the fact that my sis is developing Celiac by the sounds of it, definitely makes me think it might be worth following up on. If your mom has any advice I'd be very interested in hearing it :)

Poor sweetie.
At what point do we just give up and buy you a portable IV drip?

It really is too bad that photosynthesizing is out of the question...

? I thought you had gall bladder trouble? (or did I miss something?) If you do, you *can't* have peanuts at all. They're too greasy/oily for your gall bladder to break down. The only 'safe' nuts to have with gall bladder problems are almonds and almond paste, but even then in low quantities. Peanuts, walnuts, pecans, pistachio's, pine are all a huge no-no. They'll make you very sick, very fast.
