ROTK: The Six-Hour Cut
2/12/03, 5:27 am EST - Tehanu

Asfaloth wrote to say that the IMBD Pro magazine had some snippets about ROTK. "Rumors in early 2003 have it that the first cut is six hours long because of the amount of material from Tolkien's original story that remains to be covered." So I guess there's still a little bit of work to be done in the editing suite.

My response:
Dear Mr. Jackson;
Please, please, please, please do us all a favor and just leave the damn thing at six hours. Seriously. No further editing required. We'll go see a six hour movie. But if you can't 'cause of studio considerations, then put it on the DVD as is. Again, we will watch it, every single glorious second of it. Trust me.

And also from TORN:
NZ Concert: The Bridge of Khazad Dum
2/12/03, 5:11 am EST - Tehanu

Fiver sends word about the NBR Stadium Spectacular concert in Wellington, which will include "a chilling Lord of the Rings pageant as 300 flaming torches are borne through the darkness by hooded figures to the sound of massive drums, choir and orchestra," the orchestra being the NZSO.

Can I just say how much I'd give to be in NZ for that?

Oh and in case anyone's interested I started doing a few screencaps last night, you can find 'em here: www.ebonlock.com/Photos/TTT/". Well you knew I'd have to have a copy by this point, right? }:)

Quiet evening last night, but I got much accomplished that I'd been meaning to and this is a good thing. Was very sorry to hear that [livejournal.com profile] elo_sf's kitty is not well. Hopefully the news from the vet won't be as grim as we fear. Also got some practice in on the choreography with [livejournal.com profile] aelfsciene, though I kept flubbing up for some odd reason. The tricky part is to try to synch up our timing. She's in front so "leads" and I have to try to match her as much as possible. In some ways it's more difficult than doing a big troupe number. There are only 4 of us and we need to be moving pretty much as one, with the two up front being in control of the time. I'm finding I'm not a very good follower, and I need to work on this.

Got some drawing in while I watched Sabrina, then made a copy of "Captain Blood" to share with me mates should they care to watch Errol Flynn buckle his swash. Then got some screencaps made and puttered around online for a bit before calling it a night. I know, I know, how on earth do I keep up with such an exciting, high paced life? It ain't easy, let me tell you.

For some strange reason I'm feeling hideously anti-social these days. Like all I want to do is curl up at home and growl at anyone who knocks on the door. I'm blaming Valentine's. I tend to get a bit depressed this time of the year, probably mainly because I've never had a good/fun/romantic one in all my long years. I guess some tiny spark of hope that maybe one day I just might, is still alight in me. I should have Bitter Girl to find it and stamp it out for me.

If ROTK is on par with TTT, there's no fucking way I'd sit through six hours of it.

I have faith that PJ will learn from the mistakes of TTT and ROTK will resemble FOTR. I have to believe this, I just have to.

I only have two words to say about TTT: Transition. Movie.

Okay, so here's more words. I liked it, but mostly, that's because I haven't, can't and won't read the books. I *HATE* the way that Tolkien wrote, so I'd rather skinny-dip in a pool of pirhana. I like the way PJ is working these. TTT was off because it was a transition between FOTR and ROTK. The Empire Strikes Back bored me to tears. I really don't like it, but it's to be endured to get through to Return of the Jedi.

*shrug* Just my two coppers.

It's not so much the fact that it's transitional for me (hell I love Empire, always have...and not just because Luke runs around sweaty and half naked through most of it either), but that TTT was so poorly constructed. I can't find a single flaw in FOTR, but in TTT they jump out and bash you over the head repeatedly yelling "Look at me! Look at me!" As I've said before, the editorial team on that film should be tarred, feathered, and sent to a Turkish prison for a few years.
After FOTR I expected more, I expected magic, and I was disappointed as hell when I got a heavily flawed 3 hour film instead.
