ebonlock: (One of those days)

So for all those interested, the procedure went fine on Friday and I was mostly my normal self by Saturday. Thankfully I was drugged enough Friday evening that I didn't get quite as upset as I could have by the spanking the Oilers delivered to the Sharks. Ah well. Anyway the doctor didn't find an ulcer but did biopsy an odd, irritated area in my lower stomach so that may have been what was causing all the trouble. It may be a while before I get the results, though.

In other news I've discovered a whole new allergy! Apparently I shouldn't go near, nor handle anything in the grain family. Seriously, between the sneezing and the mild breakout of hives it's just not worth it. On the other hand, cooked, processed grains seem to be just fine for me to eat, so that's good. It has inspired me to ask my doctor about getting tested to find out just what I am allergic to and maybe getting shots to stave off the worst of the reactions. This weekend, though, was just hideous allergy-wise, with or without the grain. Something's in the air right now that's got my throat, inner ears, and sinuses going mad. Lucky me.

Aside from that, there's not much to report except that I now have in my possession photographs of the inside of my stomach which I suspect is not something most people can claim.

I have photos of my fallopian tubes. And a picture of my daughter's brain, although that's from an MRI (or was it a CAT scan?) not real photos.

Glad to hear you're feeling mostly normal - although I'd prefer you to be feeling muchly better instead. I hope they figure out what's going on and a way to address it. Otherwise we'll have to call in Hugh Laurie Dr. House to fix you up. :)

I wonder if the grain allergy has to do with grain mold instead of the grain itself since you can eat it when it's been cooked? As for allergies in general, yah I'm with you - I actually bought Visine this weekend to try to address my itching eyes with a direct remedy since Benedryl seemed to think my eyes were not worth bothering with. Ugh.

Given how allergic I seem to be to just the regular mold in my home I think you might be onto something there. And the grain I was handling was wet...

I tend to believe that mold is an allergy that is often overlooked, both because often we can't see it even if we are interacting with it, and because there are so many types of it and we can be allergic to one without being allergic to another (while if we're allergic to cats, it TENDS (but there are exceptions that make the rule) to mean all breeds, etc.)

And now I have to wonder why you were handling wet grain? *grin*

I cannot speak of it now, but in a few weeks I'll post all the details, promise ;)

Glad it went okay, and that you don't have an ulcer!

Thanks. The only downside is that ulcers are dead easy to cure, and now I'm still without any kind of diagnosis whatsoever.

{{{very gentle hugs}}}

Given your allergy issues, I think your idea of getting tested to find out the specifics is very wise.

It's on my list of things to do, but I'd like a week or two between tests, I'm really tired of seeing the inside of a medical building just now.

Oh, no doubt! I know exactly how exhausting med tests can be.

I'm surprized you didn't before. (:
(Oddly enough, although I have covers, I don't think I own the original.)

[livejournal.com profile] enuffistoomuch has an allergy to wheat, it took her a while to figure it out actually...she would always get sick after having beer (which of course has wheat products in it) and then there was her ill fated experiment with wheat gluten! So I guess I'm not surprised that you would end up having this too! Sucks!

Ok, that takes the cake, you need to get some allergy tests ASAP.
