Ok so I missed the performance at Rakkasah Saturday night, but as it turns out, it was a good thing.

Yes, you read that correctly.

For those who didn't brunch with Aelf and I on Sunday, I'll explain. I was wretchedly ill again on Friday. Imagine someone pressing a hot iron against the inner lining of the top of your stomach for the better part of the day and you'll be able to approximate what I'm talking about. By Friday night I was limp and useless, though a roll of Rolaids finally got the worst of it under control. By Saturday I was wasted and nauseated, could barely stand the car rides to Sunnyvale and back, and so I decided against a drive all the way up north and a strenuous dance routine. Spent a good portion of the evening beating myself up for being so weak, then Aelf called to say that due to a screw up on the part of the gal who'd scheduled us for the show, they just found out they could only have 5 dancers on stage at a time. Our troupe has 16 members altogether.

So, yeah, it kind of was a good thing I didn't schlepp all the way up there only to dance one part of the four part choreography, because I think I would've been homicidal. Anyway it apparently went fairly well, but there is serious dissention in the ranks and I get the feeling there's going to be some attrition on the group. That's not a bad thing as 16 people is far too unwieldy a size, really.

Saturday wasn't a total loss, though, as I got to see V for Vendetta, which quickly won me over and had me bowing and scraping before Hugo Weaving. And it was nice to finally be able to forgive Natalie Portman for the SW films. I knew within the first ten minutes that I'd be buying the movie when it came out and by the credits I knew I wanted the soundtrack. I also want to lay my hands on the graphic novels to see what all the differences were and if there was much more character development in the originals. I think my overall response was, "Hey, this is the Phantom of the Opera movie I was hoping that godawful AWL flick would be." Good damn film, if you haven't seen it yet, do so, you won't regret it.

Ugh. That's some scheduling screw-up!

And I'm sorry to hear that you were feeling so wretched over the weekend. I hope you can see your doctor soon, and that she listens to you this time.
