I've been a very slothful Empress lately and must turn my attentions back to Artemisia soon. No telling what those kids will get up to without me to guide them with an iron fist. Perhaps world domination isn't my forte after all.

Work was, well, work yesterday and passed by reasonably quickly. I reserved my lunch break for reading more of the Abarat by Clive Barker. It's entertaining, though I often wonder if he doesn't keep writing this stuff so that he can see just how outrageous a new bunch of creatures he can fashion. At least it's lighter reading than the Silmarillion, which has all the excitement and thrills of Gideon's Bible.

After work was dancing of course, two nice full hours of it. It's getting fun now as we're actually working on the choreography and we've learned pretty much all but one step of it. Class two was great, we're launching in to the Debkeh number (which I adore) and everybody seemed to be picking it up beautifully. Then we worked on veils and Rosa and I ended up in the front row leading, what a change. I used to hide in back and watch everyone else to make sure I was doing it right. Now I barely even need to hear Shira call out the changes, indeed my only critical failure of the evening was when I did listen to her shout "Switch!", did as I was told and completely muffed it. She rather sheepishly apologized afterwards, "That wasn't a switch, was it?"

Forgot to ask Aelf what info she got regarding the planned troupe last night so I'm hoping she reads this entry, just leave it in the comments if you do, dear.

Also noted that after an evening of spinning my left knee was tweaking something fierce. I was afraid I'd blown it again like I did last year, but thankfully it seems intact for the moment. Still, it might not be the world's worst idea to at least start wearing my brace to class. On the plus side, all the spinning gave me time to think about my feet for the first time in a long while. Usually I'm too focused on what my upper body is doing to really pay much attention to my feet. But after Alyne's class on Sunday and seeing the videotape of what I looked like I now realize it's a necessity. I can control the veils for the most part, now I need to control my feet.

After getting home (class ran a bit late) and feeding the cat, I was treated to a fashion show of all the gorgeous dresses Aelf had picked up at the Goodwill I convinced her to check out. I kept telling her their selection was fantastic and I think she ended up coming back with 4-5 dresses. The long, slinky evening gown was my personal fave and it looked downright devastating with the black pearls she wore with it. If Mr. Boyd does attend the party he's going to drop to his knees before her loveliness.

Now the tough part, shoes.

I lucked out, Aelf found a great pair of sandals at the Goodwill up in Sunnyvale and tried them on to discover they were far too huge. I asked what size they were, and after a bit of searching it was revealed they were 10's. Boo-yah! Reluctantly she parted with them and I snatched them up. They look great, have a tiny 1/2 inch heel, flexible soles, and are incredibly comfortable. Haven't tried them on with the dress yet, but I think they'll do just fine. So now I have THE DRESS and THE SHOES, I'm all set for the trip, woot!

I am still waffly about the outfit. I seriously doubt I'm going to fit into the black velvet *sniff*. I continue to be optimistic that the outlook will improve in the next month. Ohm.

I'd like to see the black velvet you've spoken of so much, but if that doesn't work what about that gorgeous cheongsam you wore for Christy's b-day party? I think that would work. Or if you want I'd be happy to come with on a shopping expedition. I do recommend that Goodwill in MV, you really might find something you like there.

Shopping expeditions are always welcome! I could look this month, but need to wait on spending until next month. Need to be virtuous, and I have a bunch of other high-ticket crap I need to take care of this month (new contacts, kitty check-up, car registration..)

Allow me to repeat how much I paid for my dress: $8.
Now ask Aelf how much she paid for all those she got last night. If you can find something you like at Goodwill it'll probably cost less than eating out for lunch, so keep that option open. And anyway there's shopping to buy and shopping to look, we can start doing either at this point and give you a good idea what you want to focus on for the party.

You do. ;) I think I have a pretty realistic self-image, and I've seen some of the pics, and I have chunky bits. :) I've also put on weight since the last time I wore it, and I suspect the dress will be very tight even if the chunky bits aren't even more noticable.

(When you talk about putting on weight, you think 5-10 pounds. Me? 20-30 pounds.)
