Yay for the return of Lost haiku recapping!
Locke is superstitious, no, really?
Sawyer teasing Charlie is really quite a hoot. "And you got Locke to beat you up? Hell, that's like gettin' Ghandi to beat his kids." Heh! And I loved the bit about "Ain't that just like a woman..." Double heh. And then, "Shouldn't you be more worried about Jack looting your tent?" Score one for Charlie. Oooh, not only do we get shirtless Sawyer, but we get pissed off, glare-y Sawyer as well. Sawyer does not approve of island Communism, no siree, he's a good old fashioned capitalist our Sawyer.
Sawyer chooses the one smart chick in America to try to con. Well, at least he got some sex out of the deal (presumably good?). Flash forward to Kate who arrives for some serious flirtation and a little light reading. "10 ways to tell if he's a sensitive man" "Lock's got himself needs, just like everyone else." Oh ick. And Kate gets let in on the People's Island Army being formed right under their noses, and my goodness she's not pleased.
Hurley makes an effort to reach a rather pissy Sayid through their mutual love of electronics. Sayid is too busy PMSing and playing with his...coconuts... Ahem.
A-L and Jack go on maneuvers? Or, are just hiking and flirting in the jungle, hard to say which.
Sun's playing in the garden and we get an obvious scary noise which is so completely and utterly Vincent that I actually groan aloud. Just in time to distract us from Sun actually getting kidnapped and knocked on the head by...someone. Fortunately Jack and A-L hadn't gone too far so he could show up just in time to make concerned noises and find out that Sun's hands had been tied. Hmmm that seems a little...convenient... A-L, have you been naughty?
Sawyer and Kate go out to check for a trail. Sawyer isn't buying the whole escape thing, Sun's not exactly the fighting off her attackers type. "You versus Sun, honorable death match, my vote's on you, Sheena." Sawyer turns into island detective, when realizing that this is all a little too similar to some of the cons he's run in the past. Yes indeed, all indications are pointing towards A-L, but my goodness it's way too obvious.
Kate attempts their theory on Jack, but he just can't bring himself to believe that one of their own would attack Sun. No, it must be the OTHERS. Fuck, if it were me I'd be wondering if maybe Charlie was having visions again. Maybe Mary Magdalene appeared to tell him to drag Sun off for a baptism this week. Hey, it could happen.
A-L is all pleased that they're getting new recruits, but Jack's interrogation of her is about as subtle as a herd of elephants. Sun wakes up and of course she can't remember anything, didn't see anybody, and is utterly useless. Jin's learned the word "gun", fabulous. Sawyer sees the beginnings of a posse, or a lynch mob, Kate sees that A-L is doing this to get her hands on the guns. Maybe.
Anyhow we go back to flashback city with Sawyer and his con-in-training girlfriend who I would love to believe is actually conning him, but as cool as it would be, somehow I think I'm going to be disappointed on this one.
Sawyer goes to warn Locke who is alphabetizing the hatch library for...some reason. Sawyer agrees to stay and push the button so that Locke can hide the guns elsewhere, and who, we're forced to wonder, is conning whom? Ok the writers can totally pull this episode out of the toilet with a mind fuck of an ending. It. Could. Happen. Yeah I know, I sound like Locke, "The island monster won't eat me, it likes me. Yeeaargh!" Someday I'll learn my lesson.
Sawyer meets with yet another partner of some sort who also seems like a jackass. Not as much as the other guy who got him to shoot the guy in Australia, but still. Did Sawyer ever work on his own or was he always some guy's bitch?
Jack and Jin show up for the guns and Sawyer dicks around with them for his own amusement and to get his revenge on Doctor Jack. He gloats a bit then Jin has to keep Jack from attacking Sawyer. Which would've been a really good thing ultimately as Sawyer was playing Locke and Jack against each other, which was pretty smart really. Aww, but poor Kate feels all played, poor dear. Sawyer saunters out with a gun and sets himself up as island weapons supplier and sort of de facto dictator. "There's a new sheriff in town." Indeedy.
Ok, so this was all an elaborate plan, all right, I can dig that, but we'd better get an explanation of how Sawyer managed to figure out where the guns actually were or I'm going to be profoundly annoyed.
Sawyer reveals to his chicky that she was the "long con" and plays up this whole "I've got to give him the money or he's going to kill us!" game and then, of course tells her that he wasn't really going to take her money but she must flee. Dang, she wasn't conning him at all, he's conning her and Gordy. *sigh*
Ah, Kate asks Sawyer the magic question but Sawyer demures. Kate's got an idea that Sawyer did all this to get the others to hate him. She asks why he felt he needed to do this, Sawyer replies, "You run, I con, a tiger don't change his stripes." That was hideously lame.
Sayid shows up with his makeshift radio receiver which he's been tinkering with, of course, and we have an oldies channel. I like Glen Miller as much as the next person, but not exactly what they were hoping for. Sayid says the signals could be coming from anywhere. "Or any time," Hurley comments, then, "Just kiddin', dude."
We get the reveal and yup, Charlie followed Locke and told Sawyer where the guns were. Charlie declines the heroine, bless his little heart, that's not why he did it. Locke's got himself a nemesis, indeed. And yep, he did the kidnapping at Sawyer's request, go me! Got the reason wrong but the perp right, woo! Charlie asks him why he did all this and after a lengthy pause Sawyer replies that he's a bad man. Ummmmm....yeah....
Heh, next week Sayid goes back to torture mode, something he said he wasn't going to do again. And Locke in favor of torture, huh, ok. Maybe they're taking out their Sawyer aggressions on some poor Other? Makes as much sense as anything else.
