Well I got laundry done last night but precious little else. The apartment is at least livable for Aelf's stay tonight and that's going to have to be good enough I think.

Got some more writing done, 17,100+ words so far and I might be nearing the halfway point...maybe. However, my goal of finishing it this month seems rather absurd. Ah well, it was a nice dream while it lasted.

Pye has discovered a way to get inside my boxspring and thinks this is the coolest thing ever. Especially at 3 in the morning. *sigh*

And [livejournal.com profile] tersa, no samples yet, did you get yours? Even if it arrives tonight I don't think there's any way I can get it started thanks to class, so I'll have to start it tomorrow night and play with it on Saturday I think. Do we need to do the actual ordering by this weekend? I should think so.

Overall a decent episode, and it was interesting to see how Jack's relationship crumbled away. He's a total fixer and once his wife was all well he had to go find something or someone else who was broken to put back together again. I loved the fact that while he couldn't bring himself to cheat ("It's not who you are" as his dad pointed out) his wife had been doing so for a while and left him by the end of the flashbacks. It does flesh him out a bit more, though jeez, could he be any more Clark Kent if he tried?

I also found it interesting that Kate was all into Sawyer until Jack got pissed at her, then suddenly she switched gears again and was following him around like a puppy. Jack may be a fixer, but oh boy does Kate have daddy issues.

I liked Sawyer's motivation for going after the Others. Straight up revenge, it is, after all, what he's best at. And the bit between him and Locke when the latter wants to know why he calls himself Sawyer rather than his real name was a delight. The "Mr. Clean" line needs to become an icon in the worst way.

Charlie and Hurley bonding over music down in the bunker was likewise adorable. And yay for brief Sayid and his deadpan, "This music is depressing." Heh.

I really don't like the plot device that is the Others. The end of the ep reminded me way too much of a certain 7th Sea story that ended with all of us having to back down from a mad bomber who held all the cards. Have the Others outwit our bunch and I'm totally down with that, but making them these semi-omnipotent psychos who know all, see all, and even coordinate their ambushes with torch-driven light shows, and I'm going to be crying foul.

Best scene of the whole ep is a tie between Sun and Jin's exchange on taking orders from one another and Jack asking Ana Lucia how long it'd take to turn their ragtag bunch of survivors into an army. Hell if I were him I'd already be rigging the jungle around our base with traps. Just like in Predator, that'd be cool.

I didn't need any more samples this time around, so I didn't order anything. I got my order on Thursday last week, so I would think you should get yours today...unless there was some kind of mail oddity because of MLK Day. :/

But, yes, we definitely want to put the order in this weekend. I don't think it could ship before Monday, anyway, so putting it in on Sunday would be fine.

[Lost recap]

I concur with most of what you said, except that I did like the confrontational bit with the Others. I still haven't the foggiest clue what they're up to or their purpose in the plot that is the show, but I'm willing to wait for the creators to reveal that. And I really liked the dramatic effect of the torches in the jungle. It was nicely scary and also gave us a good idea of their numbers.

Someone (I think [livejournal.com profile] tavella) did point out something odd about going to A-L about the army, though: why talk to the cop, instead of the ex-Iraqi Republican Guard member? Also: because, yeah, Sayid is going to be all kinds of happy putting a gun back into Ana-Lucia's hands.

And the other new chick that Hurley has the hots for is starting to give me the wiggins. Like she might also be an Others plant.

Well for one thing I'd assume that he didn't go to Sayid 'cause the latter was off florning in the jungle over Shannon. For another the Republican Guard might not be the best example of the kind of organized fighting force he wants to create. Thirdly, well what does Jack do when Kate spurns or fails him? He runs to A-L, of course.

Something's not quite right there, but I do think she was spotted on the plane otherwise people would've made more of a big deal about it like they did that other poor hapless guy. Then again I could be wrong about that.

I think I spoiled myself for Lost by watching four seasons of Alias; I no longer have faith in JJ to actually pull this off interestingly (because Alias got kinda dumb), and am annoyed by the Others at this point, too. I missed you a few times last night, since I had nobody to comment to, but by now, said comments are long since left my brain.

Hey, if it helps any, it sounds like J.J. Abrams is not actually actively involved with this season of "Lost" (so sayeth Matthew Fox via this week's Ask Ausiello).

So it's not JJ who is orchestrating events this year, and there's still a chance it could be interesting! :)

Pye has discovered a way to get inside my boxspring

Many box springs have this layer of filmy interfacing kind of material, and cats often tear holes in it that you don't see until you're really down looking at it. You might look for one and bring a stapler with you. :}

Yeah that's a good idea, though thumbtacks might work just as well. I know it's at the end of my bed somewhere and I'd hoped that blocking that area off would be sufficient, but no such luck.

Hey! Aelf told me that Lost was a repeat. Dang, I would not have been chatting her ear off if I knew she was watching a new ep.

I'd suggest going with the stapler method of reattaching the lining of the boxspring, as thumbtacks could be pulled out again by a resourceful cat like the Pye-monster.
