Well it's over, another DDF is behind me and I feel like I can breathe again. In fact I started to feel like I could slack a bit, then realized yesterday how many projects I have to get done before Xmas this year. So slacking...well, not so much just now.

I haven't any complaints about the weekend, despite the fact that Pye was an absolute asshole Friday night, part of that was my fault. See I set up my makeshift bed in his direct traffic lane when running from bedroom to living room, so it really was my own fault he used me as a launching pad most of that night. I got about 3 hours of sleep, dragged myself up and we made it to DDF with time to spare. Got to see the first half of our troupe perform bright and early, and cheered outrageously for them. They were wonderful! And damn did they look gorgeous. Ran backstage afterwards and got into costumes so A- could take pictures of us all, he's a fantastic photographer and last year's photos were superb so I can't wait to see this year's.

Hung around and did a bit of looking, but no buying (go me!), then we all had lunch down at House of Siam which was oh my god good. Food coma set in shortly thereafter and I took [livejournal.com profile] silkblade and [livejournal.com profile] ravenmb home for naps and general recharging before the evening show. I slept for about an hour and a half, which helped, and we headed back around 6 pm. Did some more looking, but again no buying, and then settled in to watch some of the dancers and gossip (one of the best parts about being in the community, IMHO). Then off we went to get ready, and our mini-troupe split up between the two dressing rooms so we got to talk to some of the gals in the other troupes, which was nice.

We were downstairs and ready in plenty of time, the stage manager was delighted with us and actually came over to chat and joke during the first two performers' choreographies. Jewel as a whole did superbly, though not perfectly (there were a few small veil mishaps), and I got annoyed with myself for losing my head a bit and forgetting to count out the routine at points. Discipline is something I really have to work on a bit more. But overall we did great and looked mighty fine doing it. Alyne had to come up with an impromptu method of grabbing our veils, but did a great job of it and I think it looked pretty good, of course the video will tell.

Watched some of the other dancers (the Bollywood duo were particularly good), and noted that only us and two other groups really used the pearls on velvet theme when it came to our costumes. Sometimes I wonder if our troupe isn't just a tad too literal. And we also stuck to the time limit given, which many others did not. Like I said, literal.

Anyway, we got out of there somewhere around 11-ish and all of us decided we'd earned some Ben & Jerry's so treated ourselves. Aelf's hot fundge sundae defeated her, but I think the rest of us managed ours pretty well. Hey, I figure that kind of decadence about once a year or so is not too terrible. My scale may disagree, and indeed did this morning, but hey.

Slept in Sunday morning but up in plenty of time to make it to brunch at Baji's, which was excellent. I swear that place is my new favorite restaurant, and I felt very smug for having discovered it and convinced others to go try it. We even got to meet the owner, who was nice and joked around with us a bit. The service there is also just amazing, I highly recommend checking it out.

Afterwards Aelf, Raven and I headed back to my place and sat around chatting and looking at eBay sellers, one in particular that I found kept us busy for at least an hour. Finally Aelf headed out and Raven and I relaxed, me sewing and her writing, while watching a back to back Peter Benchley crapfest ("The Beast" and "The Creature"), which we MST3K'ed mercilessly. It was surprisingly entertaining that way. Finally I got her off on her plane, came home and promptly collapsed for a good night's sleep.

All in all weekends don't get much better than that.

Isn't Baji's wonderful? It became Mel's favorite breakfast spot when she was here. If you go often enough, they will remember you, and often bring you your "regular" before you order it. Mel would go, sit down, and coffee would magically appear.

I heart my local businesses!

The free wireless was pretty cool too. I commented to the gals yesterday that we should all head over with our laptops for brunch some weekend so we could have the true Silicon Valley experience :)

That would be a lot of fun.... mmm... greasy spoon wireless...

Not only do they bring coffee with the menus for me, but they also correct me when I mis-order (usually on the potatoes vs. hash browns question).
