via Talking Points Memo:

So we've got Karl Rove's latest story, as recounted by his lawyer, Robert Luskin.

Rove did spill the beans about Plame in an effort to discredit Joe Wilson. Only he didn't mention the name 'Valerie Plame'. He only spilled the beans about 'Joe Wilson's wife'.

I'm no lawyer. But I'd hate to go into court with my case resting on that distinction.

And of course the GOP calliope is already in full swing with the repeated wingnut bray, "But, but he didn't actually say her name!"

Good Christ, somebody on the Right please just this once come out and declare Rove a douchebag who must resign (at the very least) so I can reassure myself that y'all aren't just a bunch of Kool-Aid drinking automatons. Please? Just this once?

My bleeding Liberal heart refuses to believe they're all soulless, evil bastards, I mean I know some people who voted Republican, they have neither red eyes nor maniacal laughs. Surely some of them will step up and call for Rove's resignation...surely?

I've got two people that I consider friends who vote red. When conversations turn to politics neither one of them have been able to fess-up to the fact that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraqs. I don't expect any explainations will be forthcoming for this either. It's all OK because Republicans are protecting us from terrorism, right?

Or in broader terms IOKIYAR (it's ok if you're a Republican), this power by any means, the ends justify the means thinking just scares the shit out of me. Although when they start spouting off about being the "moral" party I do admit to admiring the level of their self-delusion and hypocrisy to some extent.

Well, I'm inclined to believe that Might Makes Right and Moral Righteousness have gone hand-in-hand historically. They're like the peanut butter and chocolate in the Reeces Cup of Authoritarianism. Two great tastes that taste awful to freedom-loving folks. Hypocrisy and self-delusion are just icing on the cake.
