Well, I guess we could give them points for honesty, via Pandagon:
Governor Signs Abortion Bill At Fort Worth Church

In a ceremony filled with religious references, Gov. Rick Perry signed a bill at a church school gymnasium Sunday that imposes more limits on late-term abortions and requires minor girls to get written parental consent for abortions.

"And it has been a tragedy of unspeakable consequences that for decades activist courts denied many Texas parents their right to be involved in one of the most important decisions their young daughter could ever make -- whether to end the life that was growing inside her," Perry told a crowd of about 1,000 people gathered at the Calvary Christian Academy. "For too long, a blind eye has been turned to the rights of our most vulnerable human beings -- that's the unborn in our society."

Vive la Microscopic-Americans! Or something. But here's the money quote:

During the 1 1/2-hour program, Perry also signed a resolution to amend the Texas Constitution by banning same-sex marriages.

"Texans have made a decision about marriage and if there is some other state that has a more lenient view than Texas then maybe that's a better place for them to live," Perry said.

I'm literally at a loss for words here on so many levels...

So they've got a web form for sending the governor emails. Just sent this:

----

I saw today that you signed bills in a church, that you are further restricting abortions, and that you think those who believe in gay marriage should find somewhere other than Texas to live. Why don't you just say it? "We don't like your kind around here."

Well, sir, you are a prime example of why I left the Republican party.

Your "family values" that put young women at risk are hurtful, your attempts to draw religion into politics are dangerous, and your approach to homosexuality is bigoted and petty.

My mother was a nurse at Kaiser in Walnut Creek in the 60's, back when abortion was banned, and before that in Guy's hospital in London. She saw the affects of the anti-abortion laws in the tragic maimings of young ladies who had sought back-alley abortions. Denying these young women access to safe procedures is, frankly, criminal. It is callous. You tell yourself that you seek what's best for the fetus, but, sir, what of the young woman? No woman approaches abortion lightly. It is something done out of desperation, desperation that will drive the same woman to seek abortions outside of safe medical practice. You expect a girl who is terrified, who is desperate, who is sick, to speak to her parents who may very well be a large part of her problem? No, sir, she will find a clothes hangar. She will maim herself. And it will be your fault.

A woman is going to be beaten up for loving another woman, because you have told your constituents that her relationship is less than yours. A man is going to kill himself, because those around him won't recognize his love and his commitment. An elderly woman will starve, because you denied her access to the life insurance that she would have gotten had her partner and she been married. These tragedies, they will be your fault.

My in-laws live in Texas, and had hopes that my wife and I might move there one day. I most assuredly will not while you are governor, and while you act so flagrantly against tolerance and common decency.

Good day to you.
