Believe it or not I actually got a bit of a refund from my Bug lease, enough to get my Battlestar Galactica convention ticket on Bank of America's dime. Sweet. Aelf, we're all set, though Creation has learned from Ticketmaster about making the fans grab their ankles. $5.00 shipping and handling on each if you can believe that, and no way to opt out of it, bastards. But it's done and now I need to make reservations at the con hotel and order some patches.

I was going to do the latter last night but got distracted by my new toy, a Panasonic DVR that took me 3 damn hours to get working properly. I have only myself to blame, if my current A/V setup weren't this incredibly Byzantine arrangement I could've had it done almost immediately. Had to run it through my VCR, but on the bright side this means I can get started on converting all my old tapes into a digital format. First up will definitely be my Cupid episodes. My beloved, beloved Cupid eps. After that, if I can find them all, quite possibly "The Adventures of Brisco County" as those don't appear to be coming out on DVD any time soon. Then maybe I'll assemble all my LOTR stuff on about 50 different tapes into a DVD or two.

The only downside is I can't yet figure out how to run my all region DVD player through this whole thing. I'll figure it out, though, it's just a matter of time. I need to pick up some DVD-R's and DVD-RW's tonight, though the seller was nice to include an RW disc with the machine so I could record "Wire in the Blood" last evening. He also included what looks like part of the movie "Robots" on a disc still in the player. Odd.

Speaking of "Wire in the Blood", I was flipping through EW (the one with the "Lost Boys" cover, yum!) and read about it in there. What annoyed me, though, was the staff writer who was talking about it said that Tony was "psychic", which made me go WTF? He's not psychic, he's a trained psychologist with the ability to get into the heads of serial killers. He's the best damned profiler there is, but not because he has special powers, but because he pays attention to detail, incorporates his training into his work, and can (to some degree) empathize with the killers. He's what Mulder would've been had he stayed with the BSU rather than going to the XFiles. Well, ok, if he'd stayed with the BSU and hadn't gone bug-fuck crazy doing so.

I watched the beginning of the episode and the nice thing about the show is that you get to see what Tony sees and you can put the clues together just like he is. The first interrogation scene was a perfect example, he and I came to the exact same conclusion about the father character at the same time using the same information. I love a show that makes me use my brain, oh so very much.

Went to bed reasonably on time but Pye was having one of his bad nights which culminated with a puke fest on my bedroom window at 5 in the morning. I then shooed both cats out, shut the door, and lay there in bed feeling peaceful and content until I had to get up. Sleep would've been nice, but I won't knock a couple of uninterrupted hours to myself either.

Oh, and I'm now the proud owner of a pretty little roan pony thanks to one very silly [livejournal.com profile] ravenmb. It's a bit smaller than I'd expected, but I must admit, one of the few creatures I can actually find space for in my tiny apartment :)

*laughs and laughs*

I hope you fed and watered the poor thing. All that time alone in a cramped space... sure, you can follow the clues perfectly on Wire in the Blood, but you can't grab a single one from me. :P

Since you like WitB, please tell me you saw and enjoyed Millennium and Profiler when they were running and good.

I saw both but Profiler's characters did nothing for me so I never got into it. Did read some fine fanfic in the genre, however. Millennium just pissed me off tremendously, the whole psychic powers thing was so incredibly unnecessary. If you like WitB I recommend Touching Evil, instead. Well written, stylishly directed, and do go with the British version not the short lived US one.

I've never seen WitB or Touching Evil. Personally I resonated a great deal with Millennium - it struck me then as very spiritual more than psychic. (As something of a seer myself, of course, I'm prime target audience on one level.) Later it struck me more as spiritual weight-lifting - training to see in myself and in others both the darkest darks and lightest lights, and to be steadfast in myself. It wasn't a perfect show by any means, but I considered it quite good in its first two seasons, definitely on par with the X-Files.

I watched Profiler occasionally. I liked the main characters, the actors were quite competent, and I thought it was generally well-written. It didn't have quite the spiritual lyricism for me that Chris Carter's best work does, so I never got into it quite so much.

Do you suppose Robson will get naked again in this season? *wistful sigh*
