Next, anybody interested in taking Alyne's double veil workshop on Sunday? I know [livejournal.com profile] aelfsciene intends to, I'd like to, and if anyone else would be interested let me know. Here are the facts:

Session I 12:00 -2:30 pm Alyne's 2.5 hr Belly Dance Double Veil Beginners Workshop-: Brief theory of veil work--how veils behave with respect to choice of fabrics and shape, similarities and differences between single/double veil techniques. How to hold double veils, fundamentals of getting inside and out--training tips on developing strength, skill, spins! Perfect for first timer, or those who need fundamentals de-mystified!
August 25
Sunday
San Jose, CA
5552 Southcrest Way, San Jose, CA 95125

EACH SESSION $35.00

Both sessions includes Alyne's Syllabus for Double Veil Effects. 38 special effects you can learn!

The syllabus sounds incredibly handy, and while I like Shira a lot and respect her teaching, even she doesn't have the knack for double veils that Alyne does. I really wouldn't mind learning the basics from someone whose skills I profoundly admire.

For detailed directions to get there just click here.

The housemate also reminded me last night that if we do this workshop we will have 5 full weeks of Sunday bellydance events. Is that freaky, or what? Good lord we're *so* addicted. Also I found out today that I should have my "How to Make Beaded Bras and Belts" video tape tomorrow, the downward spiral continues }:)

I splurged on myself this morning and went ahead and bought the vegetarian cookbook I'd wanted on Amazon. It's a used copy so it was pretty cheap (under $15 with shipping), and focuses on North African cuisine. I will make a veggie bastilla, oh yes, I will. And who knows, maybe those potato things will be in there too, fingers tightly crossed!

The retail therapy helped my mood a bit. I awoke this morning remembering this long, involved dream I'd had that focused on the death of a friend. It was so vivid and real, I can even remember going through all the stages from shock to anger to grief. I even woke up grieving and so profoundly sad that not even going out to water my plants (a morning ritual that helps me wake up and center each day) helped. It doesn't help that I'm a pagan and often see dreams as omens or messages from higher powers. I'm trying to rationalize this to mean that my subconscious is trying to tell me not to take anyone for granted. To be supremely grateful that I have the people in my life that I do. Life is so fragile and short, it's good to have a reminder of that every once in a while.

Hopefully I'll shake off the melancholy at some point today, if nothing else seeing XXX tonight should help. Yay mindless adventure flicks, yay hormonal Vin-related surges, yay blowing shit up!

*hug* I will ask Vin to be especially nice to you tonight.
Life is short and so I am dedicated to spending as much of it as I can with cool people like you. (:

Double veil

I'm interested in the double veil workshop. I thought that Alyne's double veil movements were gorgeous.

Do we need to pre-register, or just show up? Anything special I need to bring along? (2 veils, I would assume.)

I didn't see any stipulations regarding registering early, but I can give her a call and try to find out if you'd like. And yep, two veils would be good, I should have finished my second set by Sunday so I'll probably have two you can borrow if you'd like.

I would definitely appreciate it if you would give her a call and let me know if there is still room in the workshop.

I have two veils that I can bring but I don't know if they are the right kind. They aren't circle veils. They are about 3 yards each of 45" wide chiffon.

You'll need half circle veils for this one, the movements with rectangular veils are a bit different. I've only seen her use half circles, myself. But if you don't mind green ones you're welcome to borrow mine.

Thank you so much - I would greatly appreciate the loan of the half circle veils. :)

I like green, actually. What color are your new veils going to be?

Just talked to Alyne, no need to pre-register, she just wanted to know how many of us would be there and if we'd need loaner veils. She's very nice on the phone and is really looking forward to the workshop!
And my new veils are black and silver/purple and silver.

so note I'm not trying for the gold star

But, the quote you chose, actually appears in a few more movies, including Sixteen candles, spoken by the older sister/bride after she has taken too many muscle relaxants to get rid of cramps on her wedding day and can barely function.

It's a little vague for a quote :)

And the Double Veil sounds wonderful, but I have so few free days I may just have to be envious of you and watch you practice.

Also in Ghostbusters, as Megs pointed out. Bill Murray's character says it after he's "slimed."

And woo. North African cuisine ROCKS. I want to borrow your cookbook sometime. ;-)
