Mar. 7th, 2005 08:31 amThe one nice thing about incredibly busy weekends is that Mondays often seem like a kind of a break. I mean all I have to do today is sit at my desk for 8 hours. Sitting is nice. I can do sitting.
Friday night there was much videoing and precious little else, yes I *gasp* watched t.v. without crafting with
tersa and
aelfsciene, go figure.
BSG, damn but this show just keeps getting better and better by the episode. I love the new bitch from hell Mrs. Tigh and I pray to the gods the writers don't reveal her as a cylon agent. I'd like to think that she's just a really shitty excuse for a human being, a complete lush, a nympho and a compulsive liar. It just makes her a helluva lot more interesting to me. And a big thumb's up to EJO for directing a fun and wickedly funny ep, Gaius continues to delight me as a thoroughly depraved, wicked, and unrepentantly self absorbed man. His relationship with Six is just wonderful and the opening scene where Starbuck walks in to find him...uh...with his trousers down (and Six bent over his workstation) nearly did me in. Oh and the dinner scene with Ellen playing footsie with a horrified but trying desperately to act normal Apollo, Adama biting down the bile he'd like nothing better than to spew all over Ellen, and the president managing the most strained smile in history cracked me up entirely. I look forward to all the trouble Ellen is going to inflict on our already screwed characters. Lots and lots I hope.
Now a minor rant regarding SG-1. Why did the show have to be such crap last season and so bloody good this one? They seem, finally, to have gotten back to the tried and true formulas and it's about damn time. However, I realize that I'm a black widow when it comes to my favorite fictional characters, I accept that, I do; but honestly to kill my favorite one twice seems a bit excessive. C'mon, he just came back from the dead last season, surely you don't mean to end him again already? That is so totally fucking unfair! I had to watch him die all heroically once, and now they've put me through it again.
Although it was kinda funny when I realized that Sam's plan would, if it worked properly, doom Daniel while saving everybody else. That wasn't quite enough for the writers, though, they had to have him stabbed as well. If he goes Ascended again I'm going to be pissed. One season of him playing bloody fucking Tinkerbell is more than enough, thanks.
Gah.
Anyway, I have a new car! It's a pretty little thing, without so many bells and whistles as the Bug, but with a warranty that kicks such booty it's not even funny. I keep looking at the full warranty end date of 2012 and just grinning. I'd much rather have full coverage for 7 years than electric windows, thanks. And I now have a CD player plus a real honest to gods backseat capable of easily accommodating 3 passengers. And my trunk is obscene, I could easily fit a body or two in there, though it has an emergency release so they could conceivably escape.
I need to get the insurance coverage taken care of, hopefully today, and the Bug gets inspected today so if I can get everything wrapped up by this weekend I'm going to be very happy indeed.
Lessee, class went on and on Saturday and Hinko is looking better each time we do it. It's still not quite there, but it's getting closer, much closer. This week's rehearsals may just do the trick. It's also nice to see that the correct combination of exercise and diet is finally taking the weight off. It's not a huge visual change, but I can definitely feel the difference, and that's the important thing. My clothes are definitely fitting better and I'm more energetic than I've been in a while.
Saw "Constantine" and it really wasn't that bad. Tilda Swinton was gorgeous and oh how I covet her costume from the end of the film.
Was caught up on "Enterprise" by
tersa, and am really sad that the show is going away once it started getting good. Typical.
Finally got to see
eilonwey's new place, which is gorgeous and so spacious it made me want to cry. By the time I got back to my place I felt like I was living in a cave by comparison. Although, at least now that I've tidied up a bit, it's a clean cave so I suppose that's something.
Ran all my necessary errands, cleaned my house, did two loads of laundry, and still had time to veg with
cyranocyrano. It's so nice to have friends out here who will just come over to hang out without expecting to be particularly entertained. It's also nice to have witty friends who'll come over, watch a crappy show or two and snark with you about it. It was a delightfully relaxing way to end a hectic weekend.

Date: 2005-03-07 06:42 pm (UTC)You know I expected to feel about Six as I did about 7 of 9 when she was first introduced too, and oddly enough while I did wave them both off as T&A I later learned to appreciate them as interesting characters. I like Six's weird combination of sexual and emotional manipulation, and naive religious fervor. But is the Six of Gaius' mind really a seperate entity? Does she exist at all or is he just completely psychotic? I was also fascinated by her counterpart's reaction to Sharon's betrayal on Caprica, it struck me as quite telling. In some ways it seems that the Cylons rather resemble very smart, very destructive children.
As for Daniel and the Replicators (hm, sounds like a rock band) on SG-1, I imagine that having him die from a stab wound was an act of mercy on the writer's part because, sucky as that is, it's still preferable to getting spaced. I know you don't like B5, but there's a scene where the doc takes someone to task for making jokes about blowing someone annoying out an airlock without an EV suit. He gives a very detailed (and accurate) description of what happens to the human body when exposed to the vacuum of space. Trust me, Daniel going out the way he did was a blessing.
Yeah but Sam-bot beamed them both off the ship before it disintegrated anyway, I'm assuming she had some sort of planetary or ship destination in mind to at least save herself and she took him with her. Can she put Humpty-Dumpty back together again for further mind fucking? I'll be curious to see whether or not she does. And will Daniel get another chance at Ascension? Will he take it if he does? I have a private theory that if he does get the offer he's going to do a bit more bargaining this time and get the non-interference clause removed from this particular contract.
That and, let's face it, Daniel's record of deaths and resurrections ranks right up there with Mulder's. At this point, I'm surprised anyone even bats a lash if he bites it. Unless the actor's contract is up (and even if it is) he'll be back eventually. That's just the way this series works.
Well what's had me worried all season is the fact that a) the actor hasn't been appearing in the promo shots for the show (note, it's just Jack, Sam and Teal'c in those) and b) they're planning to introduce a new character to the show who just happens to look a lot like Daniel. Hmm.

I'm sorry, but in this I can accept no substitute.

Date: 2005-03-07 08:04 pm (UTC)::snerk:: Whereas I dislike the Helo-on-Caprica subplot because (so far) it seems like a colossal waste of time and has no bearing on the larger story arc about the Galactica. IF they manage to weave these two wildly disparate plotlines together in a logical manner, I'll be impressed. However, given past experience with writers ::cough:: chris carter ::cough:: who gave every appearance of having a master plan only to later collapse under the weight of their own bullshit, I remain skeptical.

Did she? I didn't save the ep, so I can't re-watch it, but I had the impression that Daniel bled out just before Sam-bot and all the other Replicators went blooey. Besides, where could she go? The disruptor was pretty much set to flood the entire freaking galaxy via the Stargate network, so that doesn't really leave her anything in the way of a bolt hole.

All you really need to know is whether or not Michael Shanks has renewed his contract for next season. *g* And I'll be sure to tell you if he says anything about it at Vulkon, because you KNOW some Daniel-fanatic is gonna ask.

They'd damned well better ask, although much should be clearer after this week's ep.
