I'm feeling much calmer today, I spent a few hours yesterday just doing research on my new enemy online and realized that the problem isn't quite as bad as I'd thought. The kind of roaches I saw (American Cockroaches) probably haven't nested in the house, rather, are coming in foraging for food or water. The bait traps I have are a great choice according to what I've read, and Boric acid would be another good method of dealing with them that doesn't involve strong, harmful chemicals. We need to spend a little time this weekend filling in some holes from the garage and making sure we keep the place clean and dry as much as possible and we should be ok.
Of course if I see lots more of them that's when we get the professionals in.
Another level of defense is the kitty I'll be picking up at lunchtime today. I'm sort of inheriting it from a friend of my friend Steve. She's an older black cat, supposedly very mild mannered and calm. If she turns out to be a good hunter as well I'm going to be absolutely blissful. It'll just be nice to have a feline presence around the place, the house just hasn't felt right without one. Of course I also meant to do a blessing on the place at some point last weekend and just ran out of time/energy. Hopefully I'll manage it this weekend.
Which reminds me, I've got to stop booking myself so thoroughly. I have part of Friday evening free, that's it for the week. It was nice getting a little time to just kind of sit and be last night after Tai Chi. I even got some more sewing done on my new veil (not enough to use it tonight, alas), and watched a little t.v. It was...nice. I should do that more often.
I love overbooking myself, do it constantly, but that was how I came down with Shingles and I'd really rather not do that to myself again. I like health, it's nice. So, time to relax and make a little time for me again. At least until my family gets here on the 10th. }:)

what she said
Date: 2002-07-30 01:17 pm (UTC)With my whole self being terrified at the idea of mono right now, I'm stopping with the overbooking posthaste. Not that, er, I've got much time to myself this week, but it's the thought that counts, right?
I'm up in the 'oh my god, am I really going to do this?' area of nervousness about Sunday. We'll see how I feel after full dress tonight.

Oy, my achin' muscles.
Yay cat!
Date: 2002-07-30 02:54 pm (UTC)I find that they're also good at distributing their own shedding hair.
Hopefully, they'll be equally good repelling the various infestations. Spiders also make good toys... if it tries to skitter away, it's fun...
