Friday night was gaming, though without [livejournal.com profile] caredhel :( Our party is, of course, going back into the sewars...the place my character swore never to venture again. *sigh* Well it was that or an unfortunate number of climbing/stealth/dexterity checks...oh, and a hell cow. I did get a really cool new ax out of the game, though, so that's something. Hope it works on big, mean, and skeletal when we inevitably bump into him again.

Saturday I was up bright and early for class, which got cancelled, but I got some shit done and could then run off with [livejournal.com profile] silkblade and R- to go see "Shaun of the Dead". I know everybody's been talking about how it's this big ode to George Romero, but it's a much bigger one to Sam Raimi. The planning sequences are total Raimi, the camerwork, the mix of horror and comedy, the pacing, it's all there. They even named an unseen character "Ash" for crying out loud. If you're a zombie movie fan and have seen the "Day of the Dead" and "Evil Dead" series, as well as 28 Days Later you should get just about every reference in the film. The mix of terror and giggles is just right and by about 3/4 of the way through the film you can't imagine how you're going to end up laughing again at the end, but believe me you will. Great film, definitely worth seeing.

Later on I went over to [livejournal.com profile] tamago's place for "Lagaan" which I always enjoy watching. Ok, maybe I could do without quite so many of the cricket sequences, but otherwise a wonderful film and it has some of the best integrated musical numbers in any Bollywood film I've ever seen. Again, two thumbs up.

Sunday I got a lot accomplished, including errands, massive cleaning, re-arranging my entire closet and all of my dance costumes, a very basic spaceholder for the new Jewel of Opar website, one birthday gift done and wrapped, and one well underway. F34r my organizational skillz! If I can be half as productive next weekend I will be pleased.

You rock! We saw Shaun in London earlier this year because my boy loves his zombie movies and we didn't figure it would be something that would make it over here, but apparently we were wrong! :) I'm sure you already know this, but all the characters from that movie are from a British sitcom called Spaced, that we picked up at HMV on DVD after seeing the film.

I can't believe there's someone else who's seen Lagaan! Just kidding. :) I know plenty of people have seen it and loved it, but you're the first person I've known outside of my mom, my sister, and I. Heh. It was definately too much of the cricket scenes, but Bhuvan was hot. :P

My sis loves Spaced and is determined to get me a copy of the series. From what she tells me it's right up my alley.

Heh, I kept having the insane desire to burst into, "Bhuvan, Bhuvan, he's our man, if he can't do it, no one can!" during the finale of the cricket sequence. And then when everyone rushes onto the field I was kind of hoping we'd get a Hindi version of Queen's "We are the Champions" playing in the background :) He did make a damned adorable Krishna during that one musical sequence, though.

I'm going to see "Shaun" sometime this week with a friend. The last time I checked at Rotten Tomatoes it had a 97% fresh rating, with about 106 positive reviews, and about 7 negative. From the bits I saw, and the Q&A at ComicCon, I'm sure I'll enjoy it. BTW, I'm halfway in love with Edgar Wright after the Q&A. :)

If you like Amir Khan (Bhuvan) maybe you should try and see Dil Chata Hai because it has Amir and Preity Zinta together.

Every time I heard Preity's name spoken on Showbiz India I used to think they were saying "Pretty", which is certainly applicable...

Concerning our discussion after Lagaan, I thought I'd toss you a link to the only Remus/Sirius fic I've ever really felt captured the pair:
