So sad, nobody even tried to guess yesterday's quote. Methinks this particular game has reached its logical conclusion. I'll have to think of some new and interesting way to lure you all into reading my journal now }:)

Gaming was good last night, and my character, spineless jellyfish that she is, even stood up to the big bad guy and gave him what-for with a silver arrow and some damn fine magic missiles. Our paladin managed the coup de grace, but I still felt like I'd accomplished something. Most of the time she's rather like Arnold Rimmer, a complete physical coward who, when the fighting starts, generally makes like a tree and leaves. But c'mon, she's got about 12 hit points and a 12 AC, she's just not a melee person. Next time I'll play some hulking tank character who hacks and slashes her way through every situation. For now, though, I've got to admit my current character is obscenely fun to play. She's delightfully predictable and has to be smarter than your average bear to survive.

Still no hot water, I'm thinking that either:

a. PG&E didn't actually turn the gas on yesterday
b. The gas was turned down to the water heater and must now be turned back up so the flame can actually heat the water
c. The pilot light needs to be relit

I'm clueless about gas water heaters, but thankfully [livejournal.com profile] aelfsciene found the instruction manual so with any luck between the two of us we can figure something out. Anyone with any experience in these matters feel free to speak up.

Oh, I may be purchasing both a blackberry and a raspberry bush this evening. If I do this insane thing, will anyone eat said berries? I really don't want to end up with assloads of berries that no one will touch save me. Any takers, speak now or I may decide against it. Also if anyone has any requests fruit/veggie wise do speak up, I've got scads of yard space just begging to be planted and I'm more than happy to share the bounty.

Sheesh, this posting sounds all domestic and stuff, how frightening.

Yay Berries

We've got blackberry bushes here in Seattle. Lovely berries.

Your raspberry vines should be well behaved. They'll grow to a reasonable height, and pretty much stay there from year to year by themselves.

Your blackberry vines will triple in size every year, until they consume your backyard, house, street, and county.

Your raspberry vines have little thorns, such that if you run your hand up and down them, you _might_ get scratched enough to bleed a little.

Your blackberry vines will draw blood from multiple sources every time you mow the lawn.

Also to note: raspberries are at their peak Right Now. (We picked a metric ton of raspberries last weekend. MMM! Raspberry pie, raspberry coffee cake, raspberry sorbet, raspberries in ice cream.) Blackberries will come ripe in late August.

Hopefully, in the warmer and dryer climate of California, it'll be easier to control the blackberries. They really love the weather up here, though.

I sort of have a love/hate relationship with them. Hate them as a gardener, but mmm, berries are wonderous things, and what's a little blood lost for them?
