Haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but apparently the Phantom of the Opera film trailer is up. From the pics I'm mildly optimistic, but I need to hear them *sing*. I shall try to download this at home and give it a listen and look. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda for the news and the HP Goblet of Fire rumors. Mmm, Ralph Fiennes, now there's a dark lord I could get behind :)

Busy weekend. Should find out today whether I got the little bitty apartment I applied for on Friday. It's tiny, and no patio, but it also has a cozy feel to it and it's a really nice complex near work and on the ground floor. Also first month's rent is free and all utilities are included with the rent. I'd end up paying for phone and cable, that's it. Not too bad. I'm just a little afraid that the cats aren't going to adjust well, particularly Pye. He's just got so much energy and sometimes the house itself doesn't seem big enough for him. I worry.

Got through the first four seasons of DS9 special features and Aelf now sees why I wouldn't let her watch them until we finished the series. Way too many spoilers. The extra discs that came with three of my seasons have been pretty cool so far as well, but I'm really looking forward to the stuff on "Far Beyond the Stars", "Trials and Tribble-ations", and of course "What You Leave Behind". I suspect the latter will be a bit of an emotional roller coaster, though.

Saturday Aelf and I finally used our gift certificate for Dish Dash, a superb Mediterranean restaurant in Sunnyvale. All I can say is run, don't walk to this place. Everything about it was top-notch, including the service. But the food, oh my god the food! Best lentil soup I have ever tasted! The appetizers were to die for, and the desserts...damn. Even the mint tea was drool-worthy. I highly, highly recommend the place. It's a bit pricey, but lunches are quite reasonable and there are tons of choices, including lots of yummy vegetarian items.

Got some more stuff pulled for the yard sale which looks like it's going to be July 24th or so. I still have some stuff to clean out and price, but that shouldn't take too long. Then whoever is moving out first will be stacking all their stuff out in the garage so as to make the whole moving thing even simpler. Damn I love being organized.

I can't remember the last time I cried quite so much during a film. I was glad that Moore included a few lighter moments, if he hadn't I'd have been a complete wreck by the end. I was so afraid he was going to include the actual footage of the planes going into the towers, and I'm not sure I could've handled that on a big screen. Thank the gods he didn't, choosing instead to leave the screen black and just play the sounds, which were horrifying enough. It surprised me how much I was still affected by it, even just shy of 3 years later. I still remember the day in excruciating detail, and every second of it came back during this film.

I'm not sure which was harder, though, reliving it, or seeing the after effects on the people who appeared in the film. The mother from Flint who lost her son in Iraq was wrenching. The woman who lost her husband of 15 years and quite calmly stated that her search for the truth about what happened was the only reason she could think of to go on living. There was so much more, so much, but I think this is the part that's going to stick with me the longest. I'm glad Moore chose not to just focus on politicians in this one and actually focused on normal people whose lives have been effected by both 9/11 and the war.

A lot of people won't see this film and will judge it on hearsay, or based on their opinion of Michael Moore's past work. It's too bad because the film isn't just an indictment of the Bush administration, though there is plenty of that to be found for sure. When it's at its best Moore disappears from it entirely, letting the footage speak for itself, and letting the viewer draw their own conclusions. From the crowds we saw at the early Sunday matinee, it seems a surprising number of Americans are willing to give it a chance, which makes me intensely happy.

Apparently they want him for Voldemort in GOF, which would rock so very, very hard. She's also got some goodies up about other roles like Rita Skeeter (I'd been very curious about the casting on that one).

I like the look of it well enough but if the voices aren't there I just won't be able to bring myself to see it I'm afraid.

Looks...nice...

Hey! Here is the Phantom trailer site...wonder if they are being "voiced" by real singers...I can't imagine that either one of the leads are actually trained singers can you?!

I've already decided...decided (couldn't resist) to get Phantom Tix before I leave London since it is only playing here until 2005!
