Oct. 11th, 2009 03:07 pmSo the little cold I figured I'd come down with has turned into a sinus/tonsil infection of truly epic proportions. I could still talk yesterday (kinda) but not so much today. At least I can still swallow, so that's something. I've got a physical coming up in a week and a half so if it's still bad by then I'm sure the doc will put me on antibiotics. *sigh*
In the meantime I've been lying around the house getting a whole lot of nothing accomplished which makes me crazy. I also missed out on Vikashni's free two hour workshop today which makes me incredibly sad. I'd been looking forward to going over that punjabi piece again.
On the plus side it has given me some time to catch up on my reading and Aelf's copy of "Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters" has, happily, been completed. I have to say I enjoyed it a lot more than "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies". I thought the melding of the two genres just worked much better, and the entire steam-punk aspect (including personal submarines, diving suits and the delightful Sub Station Beta) gets a couple of big thumbs up from me. The premise is pretty simple, an unknown event simply known as "The Alteration" has caused sea creatures to mutate and set their beady, bloodthirsty eyes on humanity. Throw in bloodthirsty pirates, kidnapped island princesses, vicious sea witches and dastardly curses and you've got yourself one helluva read. It gets two big thumbs up from me.
