It was a lovely weekend that I really didn't want to end. Had a little belated mini-birthday bash for [livejournal.com profile] tersa Friday evening where we made veggie tacos and played the PotC DVD game which was much fun. I learned the valuable lesson in the game that curiosity really did pay off when I pulled a win from literally out of nowhere. And we all had way too much fun saying "booty".

Saturday I did some chores around the apartment before watching the wretched Sharks/Red Wings game. I really hope the commentators had knee pads and some lip gloss on hand for all the fluffing they were doing on Detroit. I mean Jesus, people, we're not asking you to love the Sharks but you could at least try to be a little fair. I get enough punditry in politics, I really don't need it in sports as well.

The only positive thing about the game was that Mike Grier was an absolute genius on the ice. He's smart, determined and one helluva puck handler. He just seems to know where he needs to be at all times and makes sure he gets there. Although that final goalie interference call was just about the most absurd thing I've seen in the playoffs so far.

But I'd rather not think too much about that, it's not good for my blood pressure. After the game [livejournal.com profile] moonlightnrain and I headed to Goodwill to look at possible couches then down to Pier One to pick up her papasan which is currently living in my dining room. We grabbed some Jambas and ate taco leftovers out on the patio while the cats played and generally had a nice quiet, relaxing time.

Sunday was farmer's market day, though the guy who'd promised me Apple Mint failed to bring it with him and so I left a bit sad. Determined to have something green to play with I hit Summer Winds nursery and lo and behold they had Apple Mint! I grabbed it greedily along with a nice box planter to help plug the whole Pye uses to escape under the fence. Then I found Arabian Jasmine and...well, how on earth was I supposed to pass that up? I mean I'm only human. Lugged all that and a nice big bag of soil home and spent a few hours puttering outside. If not for my allergies I'd have spent all day out there quite happily. I let the cats enjoy the patio until Pye started making repeated escape attempts, at which point it was time to go inside.

Watched the latest Doctor Who which was...well not good, but at least not as unwatchable as the Dalek eps. I've come to the sad conclusion that I really just don't like Martha and I don't think I'm going to I'm afraid. The only thing that is keeping me around right now is that the teasers included both Captain Jack (and I mean classic Jack, flirty and happy, not dour Torchwood Jack) and The Master. OMG did I squee when I caught sight of him. I'll be quite happy to forgive all of this season so far for what's coming next...unless they totally screw that up as well, in which case I may swear off the show for good.

Got a bit of writing done, but the allergies made me sleepy and my eyes itch and water so I had to stop before too long. I'm hoping to get a bit more done this week if the airborne pollen doesn't continue to hit me too hard.

America Should Exchange its "Progressives" for Mexican Immigrants

...At the same time that "liberals" hate the United States, some Mexicans have been eager to come. Many conservatives have argued for limitations on immigration. But I think that even the most anti-immigration conservative would agree that if we could exchange Mexicans for "liberals" the nation would be better off. Therefore, I propose an exchange program.

Universities should be asked to move to Mexico. This could be done by making continued tax exemption contingent on relocation to Mexico. In addition, educators, trial attorneys, newspapers and television stations should be encouraged to move to Mexico, again, using tax incentives. In addition, New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco could be asked to secede and to merge with Mexico City. Much as Alaska is separated from mainland America, so can New York, LA and San Francisco be separated from a nation in which their "progressive" residents can believe. This would also have the side benefit of sending Nancy Pelosi and Charles Rangel to the Mexican Congress.

[Editor's note: This is totally the best part, how someone could write this and not have their heads implode from the sheer illogical hypocrisy of it is beyond my understanding. Emphasis mine.]

...American "progressive" traitors would be replaced by Mexican immigrants. The immigrants would be required to go to American schools, which, since the "progressive" educators will have emigrated, would teach principles on which America is based. These include freedom, tolerance, and respect for those with whom we disagree. The schools would encourage loyalty. Most importantly schools would teach reading, writing and arithmetic properly for the first time in a century. Once the "progressives" go, our math and reading scores will shoot up because incompetent education will go with them.

[Editor's note: Just wanted to point out here that they don't mention science as being one of these properly taught courses. One wonders if it's being replaced in the syllabus with Loyalty 101.]

The result would be a large number of Americans of Mexican extraction who have replaced traitorous "liberals". Freed of "progressives", the American economy would explode. We would become fabulously wealthy. It would be like the late 19th century. New ideas would transform the world.

[Editor's note: Ok so I'd like to assume that this person understood that at least some of that incredible 19th century prosperity was created on the backs of slaves and through huge, merciless and unstable empires...but I no longer feel comfortable in assuming any wingnut worth his/her screed has the faintest clue about history. Also, correct me if I'm wrong here, but was everyone in America fabulously wealthy in the 19th century? I don't seem to recall that particular golden era of universal prosperity but then again I guess I was taught by incompetent, progressive teachers so maybe they just skipped it. Sometimes I envy the wingnuts their own little reality. It must be nice there. I bet they have unicorns and everything.]

At the same time, with even more left wing kooks than it has now, Mexico would deteriorate rapidly. In a few generations the descendents of the new Mexican "progressives" would begin to try to return here. But the future Americans, including those descended from Mexican immigrants, would not let them. They are not fools. The "progressives" would be required to remain in Mexico. Their descendents would have the chance to eat what their "progressive" ancestors served.

[Editor's note: Anyone want to put money on this particular theory? That America, once freed of all progressives would turn into a capitalist utopia, I mean. And of course that Mexico, now the home to liberal traitors and of course raking in the cash from NY, SF, LA, all media and news outlets formerly a part of the US, etc. would descend into something not unlike Mad Max. Yeah, I didn't think I'd get any takers on this one...]
