Today's Independent reports the BBC have commissioned Russell T Davies to make an "adult post-watershed spin-off" of Doctor Who entitled 'Torchwood'.

John Barrowman as Captain Jack
John Barrowman as Captain Jack The series is to feature a crack team investigating alien activities in contemporary Britain and will star John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness.

Speaking to the paper Russell said the show "will be a dark, clever, wild, sexy, British crime/sci-fi paranoid thriller cop show with a sense of humour - the X Files meets This Life"

The series will air in Summer 2006 on the digital channel, BBC3. Channel controller Stuart Murphy said the show was "a massive coup".

Like Doctor Who, Torchwood will be filmed in and around Cardiff and will feature more 'adult' content.

The paper quotes Murphy as saying "The people have affairs with one another. There will be sex and swearing, I assume. I'm quite relaxed about that, it will be post-watershed and Russell can do it in a funny and sexy way."

So basically the BBC is giving me everything I ever wanted in a scifi series in my life all in one neat little package. I'm *so* not worthy...

Ahem, anyway, a nice productive weekend and a clean apartment to boot, not to mention some fun fabric shopping on Saturday with [livejournal.com profile] tamago, her delightful husband and the irrepressible [livejournal.com profile] jimweasel. Fabric geeking is fun! And Aelf managed to leave with only the fabric for 3 new veils plus some trimmish odds and ends so even she didn't do too badly. I also have been thoroughly measured by the Egg, and can now refer people to her should they need to know the distance between my elbow and wrist, or any other combination you can think of pretty much.

Met [livejournal.com profile] h0h0 for Jamba and chatting, which we did lots and lots of despite the fact that it was a chilly night and neither of us were really dressed for it. Did try to get a copy of "Unleashed" but failed, however I did score my widescreen copy of "Kingdom of Heaven", woo!

Sunday I totally misunderstood the plan for going to [livejournal.com profile] jakejr's place and ended up missing it altogether. But it did give me lots of time for cleaning, which I did with a vengeance. My apartment, she is clean, at least for now. I figure if I can keep doing touch-ups all week and not leave myself too many dishes accumulating I might just have very little left to do on Sunday. Then Monday I'm off to Vegas. I can only imagine what the place is going to look like when I get back...
ebonlock: (Really?)
This pic with Alan in full Snape regalia laughing his ass off is just about the cutest thing I've ever seen. Many thanks to Aelf for sending it to me. I have the incredible desire now to write a fic about Severus with a case of the giggles.
ebonlock: (Super Good!)
Very cool stuff:

A post-production house organized a competition where assistant editors ‘re-cut’ trailers for famous movies to try and make them seem like different movies . . . . this is the one that won:

Shining (Quicktime file)

Also check out Titanic recut as a horror film and West Side Story as a Zombie flick, but I can't find a link to the recut of The Parent Trap as a tender coming of age lesbian flick...damn.
