First and foremost, HAPPY BIRTHDAY [livejournal.com profile] jakejr! Now I must decide if I bring your gifts with me on Sunday or if I make you wait until the 22nd...decisions, decisions :)

After a good night's sleep I'm feeling much better today. Felt bloody awful by the time I left last night, though, and I was eating Rolaids like candy. People in the meeting kept giving me odd looks, but it was that or start heaving so...yeah. Anyway, I made it through and was even mildly productive so I felt good about that.

Woke up a bit late this morning but managed to get in nearly on time so that was good. And I got to listen to part of a new mix from the vastly talented [livejournal.com profile] ravenmb on my way in, which was delightful. It's going to be one I get to savor during my 8 1/2 hour drive to Vegas in a little over a week, I expect.

I'm really looking forward to a roadtrip on my own, oddly enough. It'll give me some time to just think and be. No need to chat, I can stop whenever I feel like it, and basically just enjoy some me time. It sounds heavenly.

Oh and have I mentioned that I recently purchased a toaster? Yeah one of those extra wide ones 'cause my sisters are bagel fanatics and they just work better in those. I've been doing a lot of toasting lately (with a sick stomach there's very little that's gentler on it than a nice warm bagel) and Pye is absolutely loving it. He just sits in the kitchen inhaling all the bready fumes with this look of bliss on his face. I swear he'd rather eat a few bites of a bagel than all the soft catfood in the world.

And the Kingdom of Heaven ads have been running a lot recently, so much so that I doubt I'll be able to resist picking up a copy at Target this weekend. Mmmm, David Thewliss goodness...

Rove Testifies Again in CIA Leak Probe

WASHINGTON - Karl Rove testified for the fourth time Friday before the grand jury in the
CIA leak probe, following public disclosure of his conversations with two reporters about the identity of a covert officer at the spy agency.

It was likely the White House aide's final chance to convince grand jurors he did nothing criminal in the leak case. Prosecutors have warned Rove, a top adviser and architect of
President Bush's 2004 re-election campaign, that there is no guarantee he will not be indicted. The grand jury's term is due to expire Oct. 28.

The White House has shifted from categorical denials two years ago that Rove or Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, were involved in the leak of a covert CIA officer's identity to "no comment" today.

And on another bright note, who knew I'd ever have an opinion in common with Margaret Thatcher?

Yesterday's Washington Post reported that when asked whether she would have invaded Iraq given the intelligence at the time, Lady Thatcher replied: "I was a scientist before I was a politician. And as a scientist I know you need facts, evidence and proof - and then you check, recheck and check again."

She added: "The fact was that there were no facts, there was no evidence, and there was no proof. As a politician the most serious decision you can take is to commit your armed services to war from which they may not return."

And holy fuck this is so goddamn brilliant. If you click one link today make it this one, please, just don't drink any beverages before you do, I will not be responsible for spewed soda/tea/coffee on keyboards.
