ebonlock: (Doctor Torture)
I think I've settled upon some really lovely gifts for the hardest to shop for folks on my list. Yay! I like having Xmas settled well in advance, makes me feel much calmer about the holidays. Especially as I'm likely to spend a good portion of them insanely busy at work and/or possibly traveling. I'll have my mom done as soon as I get her laptop out to her, two of my sisters settled for the most part in October as well as my friend J-, decided on the big gift for my other sister last night, have Aelf figured out, [livejournal.com profile] tamago as well, and [livejournal.com profile] ravenmb's big gift is finally underway. Go me!

Did fuck all else really except stop at Crossroads for more of my beloved Chummus (we wants it, we needs it) and their fresh baked pita, mmmm. Oh did load up some cd label/cover designing software as I'm hopeless with the cut and tape method of making actual covers. Now design and print, that I can do. Just need to snap a picture or two of myself that'll work for my passport and I can print that off on my nifty new printer as well.

I also threw "The End of the World" on because I had to see the Doctor rock out to "Tainted Love" just once more. Doesn't matter how many times I see it I fall over laughing every single one. It's just the silliest moment. Speaking of which, remember when I linked to that company that can make custom car emblems? I finally decided which one I need to get, it was obvious really, I mean what color blue is my car aside from "Nightcrawler"? Why TARDIS, of course! It will amuse me far too much to have a Honda Civic TARDIS. And look, my car is a crossover! :)

Edit: Oops, almost forgot, you Doctor Who fans out there really need to go read [livejournal.com profile] taraljc's fics. I mean you need too. I linked to one of hers earlier this week, but honestly you should check out the rest, because they are damn good. I mean it's almost scary how well she gets into the Doctor's noggin, and oh my god the dialogue is dead on. She's also got some incredible Forever Knight, XFiles and VR.5 fic to choose from (or Firefly if you're into that), so a little something for everyone.

Digby on some Democrats' fear of Cindy Sheehan:

Political theatre works. If people could be politically persuaded by civilized debate, the Lehrer News Hour would be the highest rated news show on television. Most people need drama, excitement, pathos, catharsis --- on some level their emotions have to connect with their minds in order to understand.

Up to now, the story of Iraq has been told through the prism of American might and glory. It was a stirring tale. Unfortunately, the story of Iraq isn't really a story of might and glory; it's a story of arrogance, incompetence and human suffering. That's the story that Cindy embodies as she stands out there in the hot sun, surrounded by supporters, asking the president to answer the question for which he has no answer.

The spectacles of 9/11 and Iraq are over. Even the war supporters are singing a different tune now ---- the swashbuckling "I-raq 'n Roll" has given way to the mournful "Arlington." Cindy Sheehan's story is the story of that shift in the zeitgeist. We do not need to be afraid of this; it's good for the country.

Edit: You are just not going to believe this from the protoplasmic slime that is David Horowitz:

American Nazi Idol

LAST NIGHT THERE WERE 1,500 CANDLELIGHT VIGILS FOR CINDY SHEEHAN AND ONE BURNING CROSS. Sheehan has become the poster girl for the antiwar Left, because her status as a grieving mother renders the 48-year-old Vacaville, California, native more sympathetic than Medea Benjamin, Ramsey Clark, or Michael Moore (whose website hosts Sheehan’s blog). However, neo-Nazis, Klansmen, and racist extremists have also begun gathering around the Gold Star Families for Peace founder.
[...]
Cindy Sheehan’s newfound, seemingly mutual love for anti-Semitic, racist, and neo-Nazi extremists draws attention to one overlooked fact: the racial extremist movement has been moving steadily Left in recent years.

Light of Reason

Do we even live on the same planet as these people? I mean whose favorite racist border patrolling zealots are these again? Clearly Leftist hippy symps, all.

via Daily Kos:

Remember these oldies but goodies? All about our intervention in Bosnia, but the true classics never go out of style.

"You can support the troops but not the president."
--Rep Tom Delay (R-TX)

"Well, I just think it's a bad idea. What's going to happen is they're going to be over there for 10, 15, maybe 20 years."
--Joe Scarborough (R-FL)

"Explain to the mothers and fathers of American servicemen that may come home in body bags why their son or daughter have to give up their life?"
--Sean Hannity, Fox News, 4/6/99

"[The] President . . . is once again releasing American military might on a foreign country with an ill-defined objective and no exit strategy. He has yet to tell the Congress how much this operation will cost. And he has not informed our nation's armed forces about how long they will be away from home. These strikes do not make for a sound foreign policy."
--Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA)

"American foreign policy is now one huge big mystery. Simply put, the administration is trying to lead the world with a feel-good foreign policy."
--Rep Tom Delay (R-TX)

"If we are going to commit American troops, we must be certain they have a clear mission, an achievable goal and an exit strategy."
--Karen Hughes, speaking on behalf of George W Bush

"I had doubts about the bombing campaign from the beginning . . I didn't think we had done enough in the diplomatic area."
--Senator Trent Lott (R-MS)

"Victory means exit strategy, and it's important for the President to explain to us what the exit strategy is."
--Governor George W. Bush (R-TX)

Wow, how things change, huh?
