May. 17th, 2005 08:30 amHmm, I find very little of note to say today. I suppose I should be all a-twitter about the new SW film, but I just can't dredge up much enthusiasm. I truly desire to be proven wrong, I'm a first generation SW fanatic. I saw the first film in a theater shortly after it was released and I can remember vividly playing X-Wing Fighter Pilot the entire way home in the backseat of my parents' car. It changed the direction of my life, I became a rabid sci-fi/fantasy geek ever after. My sis and I audio taped it off the t.v. when it first aired and then used it as our soundtrack to role play the entire film for our cousins. She got to be Han, I got to be Luke, and the rest of the characters were up for grabs.
I have memories of my experiences with each of the films, the huge theater we saw Empire in (the biggest I'd been in to that point), seeing ROTJ opening night and bruising my cousin's arm because I was clutching it so tightly during the throne room scene. I was beyond ecstatic about the new films when I heard Lucas was working on them...that is until I saw them. So you see, I've been hurt before.
I'll wait until a week or two has passed before I brave the theaters to see this new one. I know a bunch of folks have said it's actually pretty good, but I'm going to take some convincing. I kind of wish Spaced was still on the air, I have to say I'd love to hear Tim Beasley's take on it. Our tastes where the films are concerned are almost identical.
I want to believe there will be something in this third and final installment that I can actually embrace. Something that won't make me sigh, shake my head, and wonder how in the hell Lucas ever pulled off the original trilogy.
