Feb. 21st, 2005 08:23 amFirst and foremost, packaging for season one of the Venture Brothers, woot! Go Team Venture!
I'm ridiculously excited about this, but then I've been watching the same On Demand episode for over a week now and since my VCR refuses to be programmed and I'm not on a schedule that allows me to stay up until like 1:30 on Monday mornings, I'm currently screwed. And of course they stopped playing it Saturday nights when I actually could stay up and watch it. *sigh* Fuckers.
I have also decided to see "Constantine" in my copious spare time. Reading
razorjak's review, seeing a behind the scenes special and realizing that Tilda (love her so much) Swinton is playing Gabrielle were enough to tip me in the movie's favor. Additionally I have no particular emotional connection to the original so even if it bears little resemblance I won't really care. Now to find the time to do it.
I did get to see "Troy" this weekend and was ever so glad I'd read
cleolinda's 15 minute version first so I could amuse myself with little jokes throughout. On the plus side Brian Cox, Peter O'Toole, Sean Bean, Julie Christie (briefly) and a host of others that just made me go, "Wow". On the minus side Eric Bana (I made the mistake of watching part of "The Hulk" this weekend as well, it was THE WORST FILM I HAVE EVER SEEN, I shit you not, I still haven't forgiven him) and Brad Pitt (because, as we know, the Illiad was really all about Achilles), and my inner art historian was screaming in agony over the sets and sculptures. One more time, for the understanding impaired, the sculptures and temples did not look like blank stone they were FUCKING PAINTED! Yes, they were bright, to our eyes garish, colors, everything! Pick up a damn history buck just once in a while, would you? Jesus that pisses me off to no end. Go here to see what I mean, in particular the Apollo. Now that took me about 20 seconds to locate online, but not one of the people working on the film could bother.
Gah.
Overall it wasn't a horrible film and I liked the Achilles/Hector fight (very well choreographed), though I did keep hearing Handy from the Tick, "Like Achilles sulking in his tent. You know, Achilles...the Illiad...READ A BOOK!" Heh. And there was something decidedly satisfying in knowing that Erik Bana's character would end up dead and dragged behind a chariot for a while; again, see "The Hulk" and you'll feel the same way too.
Uh, in non-movie related news I now have some new clothes that I love very much, including a dress to wear to the upcoming
mallen nuptuals. When you walk into a store, find a gorgeous dress in the latest fashion that fits like it was made for you and costs under $10 you thank the Fates quietly and immediately go and pay the nice people for it. I also found my favorite velvety Chinese dragon shirt in a dark blue color and grabbed it as well.
Ended up dancing quite literally all weekend and Sunday I had the excuse to wear my gorgeous bronze outfit again so I was pleased. Also played with a new set of veils and discovered that they work just fine without any trim so less work for me, hooray!
This week shall be sheer insanity as there is a performance, normal classes, an extra "Awareness Through Movement" class, a party and gaming. If I'm a little burned out by Sunday evening, that's why.
