ALW had better be very glad I don't have godlike powers or the little troll would be in a heap of trouble after the reviews of the Phantom film I've been reading. Jesus, man, have you learned nothing from George Lucas's mistakes? At this point I'm expecting JarJar to be cast as Firmin. Why the hell not? If you're shooting for desecration, why not go all the way?

Well, so much for my plan to see the movie on Xmas, I'll wait until the 29th and go with some other people so I can cry on a shoulder or two if necessary.

Speaking of Xmas, I have way too much planned to do that day. I know not everything is going to get done and it vexes me. On the other hand I know that by getting out of bed and dressed will put me ahead of a large percentage of people when it comes to accomplishments for the day, so I guess that's something.

We're getting rid of more stuff that's been collecting dust in a file cabinet here at work today. Fortunately, no matter what I end up with I know someone I can give it away to. Yay no more junk at home!

Lots of baking to do for the potluck tomorrow. I expect that it's about the only thing we're really going to accomplish on Xmas eve here at the office.

Well now I definitely know who's getting a donation from me this year:
Backfire: Turning Pickets Into Pledges

It's an ingenious idea. Create a no-win situation for anti-choice protesters — the more picketers who demonstrate outside a Planned Parenthood clinic, the more donations the Planned Parenthood clinic receives.

A number of Planned Parenthood affiliates have created different versions of this scenario. Here's how it works at Planned Parenthood of Central Texas (PPCT) in Waco, where the Pledge-a-Picket program is going strong: Each time a protester shows up at the clinic, a donation is made to PPCT. This campaign makes lemonade out of lemons by allowing Planned Parenthood supporters to pledge between 25 cents and one dollar per protester.

Despite the low pledge cap, which is designed to encourage donations, the money adds up, especially since the picketers never go away. Every month, participating donors get a short update on activities and a monthly billing for their pledge. It's like sponsoring a runner in a charity marathon.

Once a week, PPCT puts a sign outside its clinic that says, "Even Our Protesters Support Planned Parenthood." To date, the Pledge-a-Picket program has raised $18,000 for PPCT.

An elegant solution if ever I've read one.

Sweet!

Firefox users on broadband may want to try this tweak, it does seem to work:

How To Speed Up Firefox (Helpful Vanity)

Posted on 12/12/2004 12:45:50 PM PST by KoRn

Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!
