It's...complicated
Dec. 13th, 2004 09:08 amBusy but fun weekend, starting out with Aelf arriving to visit, and then the two of us heading to downtown MV for Thai, then back to my place for videos. Saw "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" which was fun, and Elijah was a big ol' pervy freak (which I enjoyed to no end). Then I forced some "Spaced" episodes on her before she finally passed out. I think she enjoyed them quite a bit.
Saturday was lots o' errands in the morning, then lots o' Escaflowne in the afternoon while I worked on my next bellydance costume concept. Got it basically done, though ended up with a few episodes left to plow through by the time we had to take off for the murder mystery. I managed to pull together something that looked vaguely Old West "Soiled Dove"-ish and did my hair in the most improbable style from a bad B western I could manage. I even had a fan to flutter and simpered in a truly awful Southern accent. It was great fun. Aelf won best quote of the night by starting the "It's complicated" meme, for any question our characters really didn't want to answer. We decided that with her blue hair she was an anime cowboy of indeterminate gender, which worked for her. By the end of the evening, and so many courses I couldn't even keep track any longer, it was revealed that for the first time in 4 years I was actually the murderer, hooray! I got to be a hussy and a killer in the same night, go me!
Sadly, we didn't get out until very late so we missed
mallen's party :( But I shall not double book on the day of the wedding shower, promise!
Got home pretty late, but threw "Shaun of the Dead" on and Aelf laughed a lot so I felt pretty good about that. I also spotted so many characters from "Spaced" it's not even funny. They even got Tires, in full costume, into the getting into the Winchester scene. I just about died as he was the one zombie who was also kind of dancing (as he should). I'd also forgotten that the roommate Pete was the same guy who stole Tim's girlfriend away from him and got paint-balled in the nuts in one of my favorite eps. That freaked me out. The fact that Yvonne was a slightly more energetic and competent Daisy also made me quite happy. The special features on that one rock so very much I can't even tell you. We didn't even make it through all of them, and this is one flick I want to watch the commentary tracks on as well. Good stuff.
Sunday we dragged ourselves out of bed and I watched some more Escaflowne and got to within a single episode of finishing before heading over to SWMII for gaming. On the plus side, Hav got laid and was happy about that. On the other hand, we discovered that his new weapon was problemmatic in a number of ways and once he started to learn to use it, it got stolen. I felt a vague sense of relief about that as it was going to cause me some point expenditure headaches anyway. Sometimes specializing really sucks. But we got a fair amount accomplished and we all laughed a lot, and that makes me very happy indeed.
