I have come to the conclusion that I'm never really going to nail Raqs Souhaila. This certainty is fueled by last night's class wherein as soon as I got a veil in my hands everything I'd learned up to that point flew right out of my brain. This is the exact opposite of what usually happens which bodes very ill.
Fortunately we spent some time before and after said disaster going over "Soiree Odalisque" so it could be re-affirmed that I at least know some routines to a reasonable degree. Hooray! Made it through one version of the whole thing, plus an additional run of "Hinko" and barely broke a sweat, now that's more like it. Alyne also announced that I was "in charge" of the Dec. 4 gig and told me to figure out the line up for the choreographies. I, of course, turned it into a democracy where everyone could vote about where they'd rather be positioned. Everyone seemed mostly pleased and I thought it looked good.
For "Hinko" S- joined us and took the lead which led us to dancing the routine way too fast. I tried to keep up but I just can't do it as quickly as she does. Luckily after we finished Alyne's only complaint was that it was too fast, so for the second run through she put me out front and I made sure we did it slower. Much better.
Turns out M- will be on my team after all so I don't have to dance double veil entirely alone. *relieved sigh*
Almost didn't go to class last night as the urge to stay home, curl up and finish re-reading "The Wounded Land" was strong. Very strong. But I'm determined not to fall too far behind. And it was good that I did go as a) I needed the practice and b) I got to set up an extra Dec. 4 rehearsal at B-'s Tuesday evening. I'll be surprised if anyone shows up, but I could use the dance time so whatever.
Slept rather poorly thanks to two cats who have discovered that the monkey generates a good amount of heat. Kept waking up when I tried to turn over to find Kage taking up the entire center part of the bed and pinning my legs down while Pye was either curled up at my chest or the middle of my back. Strangely, though, I'm far more awake today than I was yesterday after a good night's sleep. Go figure.
Just under 48 hours to go before Vegas!
