Uh, weekend, what did I do this weekend? Well, there was no gaming, but there was crafting and movie night over at SWM II so that was cool. Saturday up bright and early to meet Aelf and head down to the SJ flea market. Everyone was on time except Alyne so we headed off and she promised to call when she arrived. So many fabric stores to choose from, and oh my god the sets. As it turns out the 3-part sets were actually for making salwar kamizes (sp?) but given that Alyne had come with a totally different design than the original concept that was what we were going to need anyway. J- and I just looked at each other when she showed us the new idea. We're going to have to do more sewing? Just when we thought we were done with all of that. *sigh*
Anyway, once we'd actually settled on going with the design the real fun began. Now I'm the kind of shopper who likes to know precisely what she's looking for, check a few places, then make a decision and buy it. Apparently this is not the norm, at least not in our troupe. The decision-making process was excruciating. I chose which set I wanted and just stood back to allow the others to dither. Finally everyone ended up buying a set from the same place, with half getting one kind (embroidered watercolor like sets that reminded me a lot of Monet paintings) and the other half getting slightly more traditional looking sets (nice dark primary colors in geometric patterns with gold filigree). This means I now have to sew a panel skirt and lay my hands on some black harem pants before the 23rd. *double sigh*
This had best be the last costume work I have to do for a good long while.
We got back to my place after a quick stop at Cosentino's and watched some videos before heading out for dinner at Sue's. Mmm, Aloo Gobi goodness! Then back to my place to catch "Lost". I have come to a very profound conclusion about the show, someone must write Charlie/Sayeed fic. It must be done.
Got up much later than intended on Sunday and gave Aelf a quickie course on how to dance Tammerhenna. It's actually far more complicated than I realized, which I didn't notice until I tried to break it down and teach it to her. Doing it non-stop for months on end kind of plays with your perceptions. She then took off to meet with P- about getting fitted for her costume, so that's one Xmas gift well underway, go me!
I ended up running some errands and attending to my cat sitting duties before getting home way later than I'd hoped. I considered heading down to B-'s for the hafla but then realized how much shit I had to get done. I wasn't even through with laundry until 10 of 6 (which was when the party started). Gave up and got my cleaning done then plowed back into one of the four sewing projects that need to be completed in the next few weeks. Between modifying my new costume, creating the new troupe one, helping Aelf with her bra and belt, and working on my gift project I'm going to be a sewing fanatic. Wish me luck.
