Engaging hermit mode
Aug. 11th, 2004 08:05 amSo, as of last night I'm now officially committed to doing the most challenging routines in DDF this year. Why? Two reasons, one I am a damn strong veil dancer and have spent quite a long time now to become one and I want to show off what I can do, two because I believe I have very strong subconscious masochistic tendencies. Feel free to take your pick.
In any case this means attending every class between now and mid-September (3 times a week) and staying afterwards for extended rehearsals. We got out around 9:30 last night and I suspect that will be the norm from now on. Every second I can devote to dance I'm going to until September 20th when it's all over and I can take a deep breath, collapse and veg for about a week.
Basically we're talking a little over a month to perfect several dance pieces, so if I haven't already committed to a social activity I probably won't. I don't want anybody to take my refusals personally, it's just that this is my big priority right now and I've got to focus all my time and energy on it. Sadly,
elo_sf this may be our last dinner for a while :(
Anyway, Alyne's changed things up a bit again, but as it's in a saner direction I approve. We'll be doing a ridiculously long version of "Tammerhenna" (I think it's like 5 minutes in all) plus a really challenging double veil piece "Hinko", and possibly "Bamboo" at the end, but that's unclear at this time. But she did make an announcement last night that I thought would be of interest to the general public reading this.
The concept for our piece is "Soiree Odalisque", so it is, of course, set in a harem. So Alyne thought it would be cool to have guys and gals lounging in the back of the stage, you know eating grapes, watching the dancing, basically being all decadent and dreamy (rather like Ingres' Turkish Bath, only with clothes.
If you've always dreamed of at least pretending to be a doe-eyed serving girl or boy and would enjoy participating in the DDF Extravaganza (and getting into the show for free, I think) contact me. I am especially looking at those who I know have costumes or can get them easily enough,
cyranocyrano,
technocowboy,
esmerel,
xleste,
tersa,
eilonwey, and of course
aelfsciene who I already confirmed last night. If you don't have costumes but think this would be fun anyway, we can probably take care of you as well. I expect that you'd need to show up for a few rehearsals before the actual event (Sept. 18-19 in downtown SJ), and probably for at least one dress rehearsal.
Bear in mind that this may all change, and until I get a definitive "Yes we're doing this, tell me who wants in" from Alyne it's still up in the air. But if you're game, go ahead and leave a comment anyway so I'll have a nice list of folks to hand her when the time comes.
