And that smile that wrinkles your nose...
May. 3rd, 2004 08:48 amFirst, this made me laugh out loud and startle my office mate this morning: Middle Earth in America. There are one or two I may well save, they're that good.
Friday evening was lovely, couldn't have asked for a more relaxing and wonderful time. Got to wish
tersa a happy birthday while relaxing in a hot tub with
silkblade,
lil_m_moses, and
aelfsciene. Fortunately said hot tub was actually quite cool (well, cool enough for me anyway) and situated in the arabic themed room. We all pretended we were odalisques and scampered from room to room and tub to cold plunge to sauna to steam room. Ah what decadence. And as most of us decided to go without a stitch of clothing (I hadn't had time to find my bathing suit and, well, hadn't expected to be able to get in the tub anyway), it was even more relaxed and delightful.
We all threw on our clothes and met up with
jakejr for dinner in downtown PA. While I was taken with the organic vegetarian place we ended up opting for Korean bar-b-que. Surprisingly they also had a big vegetarian menu and I ate far too much. Their tofu tempura was to die for! Must get back there in the not too distant future. Really nice atmosphere and great service too.
Saturday I got to sleep in nice and late, then got up to straighten the house before
cyranocyrano stopped by for the game. I think I would've been much less heartbroken by the loss if the team hadn't been playing like the game wasn't terribly important. I'm sorry, but that's no way to win against the Avs. And please, for the love of the gods, somebody smear Teemu and Sakic. Please?
Then there was much more DS9 to make Aelf and I feel better. Getting to see "Badda-Bing, Badda-Bang" helped greatly. She was just as delighted with the episode as I'd hoped. And we both got to chorus, "Vic is so cool!" Heh. I also very much enjoyed "Chimera", which I'd been waiting for since forever. Aelf also pointed out that Laas was played by the same guy who played Martok (whom I love, love, love!) which amused me greatly. Very different makeup must've thrown me 'cause that voice was just unmistakeable.
Stayed up much too late, but managed to get in a quick Beltane ritual before passing out. Up too early on Sunday for my tastes, but getting to the grocery store before the crowds is always nice. Zoomed home and did a bit more tidying up.
silkblade had to cancel dance practice, but Aelf and I followed through and went through almost every choreography we knew. It felt oh so good to get moving again after an entire day of sitting around watching t.v. (though, on the plus side I'm almost finished with the top layer of the latest quilt I've been working on). Then we plunged back into DS9 to finish up the final story arc.
It was nice to get to do so before Aelf left, but had it been up to me I probably would've prolonged it a bit. I hated to see it end, even though I knew what was coming. And yes I cried my eyes out through most of "What You Leave Behind". I'll never be able to listen to the song "The Way You Look Tonight" without sobbing. *sigh* Ah well, all good things must end eventually. I guess part of what really hit me about this ending was that it foreshadowed the changes coming in my own life all too sharply. I'm so not looking forward to saying goodbye to the house and the yard, and most of all my wonderful roommate. But at the same time, I know that trying to hang onto the past and fearing change is not the way to live my life. Old doors close, new ones open, and you have to look ahead. I took that message away from the series as well.
I guess, in a way, the timing couldn't have been better. I've still got so much to look forward to. So much I want to do and see and be, and that's the important thing. *sigh* Well, enough of the deep thoughts. I've got tons of housework to do, massive amounts of yard work, and I need to get started on my packing this week. If anyone has boxes they'd like to be rid of, Chez Femme II can always use them.
