Guess who got her shiney, super cool, sparkles and jingles and just looks damn pretty bedleh set last night. I tried it on within seconds of opening the box and decided some modifications need to be made, but I'm a crafty kinda gal so this shouldn't be a huge issue. Turns out the bra is actually a 38B, which means it gets the most modifications, but the belt needs a little shoring up too. It's 37" long, which I got large on purpose as I knew it would have to go over harem pants and some sort of skirt. However, I actually am starting to lose a little weight thanks to better eating habits and working out again, so it's even larger than expected. And it's only got a velcro fastener. While I'm sure that's fine for showgirls strutting around onstage, it's not quite up to bellydance standards. Good thing I've got a butt-load of eye-hooks and I know what to do with them. I think a bit of elastic in the belt to make it fit a little more snugly will help too. Luckily I have a beaded bra/belt how-to tape to show me again the best way of doing just that.

Took the set to class with me and was amused as the entire group of beginners and intermediates formed a tight circle around it. Bellydancers are easily distracted by shiney things, it's quite amusing really. But everyone approved and I felt it was money well spent.

Classes were good, though the intense heat sucked the will to live out of all of us I'm afraid. It was great to work on veils for an hour and just get back into the swing of it. Where, oh where has all my spin-control gone? I used to be able to stay right where I wanted to while whirling...but no longer. That's a top priority now to get back into my former performance shape. Also got the tape of our performance at the senior center and while I thought PoC looked fabulous I was much less impressed with my veil work. Ah well, practice, practice, practice.

Alyne also talked to us about a possible gig in November that just sounds fascinating. We'd be working with Troupe Namaste and, get this, lion dancers. Just attempting to picture this is boggling me at the moment. Still it sounds like a helluva lot of fun.

Does anybody know when this heat is supposed to end? Ye gods it's September fer cryin' out loud!

Oh and I heard the news today, oh boy, Johnny Cash is no longer with us. While I was never a big fan it does make me kind of sad that his cover of "Hurt" didn't win at the MTV viewer's choice awards. It would've been nice to have added yet another award to all of the accolades heaped upon him in this life. And apparently John Ritter of "3's Company" fame has also left the land of the living. Could the gods be subtly trying to say that we already have too many bad sitcoms and bad sitcom actors in this world? One does wonder.
