Yeah I know, those of you who know me at all are rolling your eyes and muttering, "Like that's news." But apparently a Middle Eastern studies teacher in Salt Lake (biting my tongue on that one, it's just too easy) has decided to block a local belly dance company's desire to acquire a grant that would allow them to rent a local cultural center for a dance fest. His reasoning is apparently:
"Miller says the public should not be footing the bill for a "perversion" of Middle East culture that he insists was introduced by an Egyptian prostitute cult at the Chicago World's Fair in 1893. He says belly dancing is sexually suggestive and not practiced in the Middle East.

"It is a sexually oriented business disguised as art," Miller told the County Council. "It would be like the Ku Klux Klan putting shoe polish on their faces and singing songs about blacks. Would that be funded here?"

First time I've heard of the dance being considered a "perversion" or likened to a hate group. Methinks Mr. Miller needs a nice long enema to remove that rather large stick up his ass. If for some bizarre reason you want to read the rest of the article go here

A nice long pat to my own back for having gotten the lawn mowed last evening, it looks much better, though I really should weed whack it at some point this week just to finish things up nicely. So far most of it is a nice lush green with just a few crispy bits. Almost lost my nasturtium earlier this week when it was outrageously hot, so they got moved to the north side of the house next to the jasmine and mint. The mint, btw, is totally out of control. I'm really glad I was smart enough to plant them in a container or most of my yard would be mint at this point. Still kneeling down by the container and inhaling deeply is awfully nice. Jasmine and 3 varieties of mint...mmmm...

Also managed laundry and defeated the Dread Pirate Briggs in Golden Sun last evening. Go me! At this rate I might just make it off the continent this week, and could conceivably finish this game sometime this decade. Woo!

Got my new driver's license with about a week and a half to spare. The DMV actually managed to get something done in a reasonable period of time, go freakin' figure! Although, isn't DMV efficiency one of the sure signs of the Apocalypse? Damn my atheist upbringing, I need to know these things!

Got into work a bit late as I got hung up watching last night's episode of XMen Evolution. I'd missed "Middleverse" the first time it ran so caught it on tape last night as part of our "Must have all Evolution episodes!" obsession. It was so worth it, though, damn Kurt is just beyond adorable on the series. And his indignant squawk when Scott yanks his tail is nearly cute enough to induce a sugar coma. Their take on Forge was a bit...odd, but I'm looking forward to seeing where they go with it from here. I'm really excited about an upcoming ep involving Forge creating a device to allow Kurt to see what it looks like between dimensions while he's 'porting. Apparently it involves a bit of a crisis of faith for the blue fuzzy one, and Kurt character development positively makes my toes curl.

He's animated, blue, furry, jail-bait. Must remember that. *sigh* Yeah, I'm a perv all right.
