Savor each sensation
May. 23rd, 2003 08:32 amYe gods it was muggy last night, more like summers back east than what I'm used to out here. I know it was extra humid for three reasons, first my hair was being more curly and frizzy than normal, two I was dripping sweat with only an hour's dance workout last night, and three my veils said "You want us to do what?" a lot. Grr. Argh.
We ran through some steps in Princess of Cairo again last night and I keep watching Alyne's feet thinking, "Ok, that's a grapevine, I know how to grape-...wait, now she's turned around and wait, which foot is...oh fuck!" I like how the number looks and I'd like to get to the point where each move isn't this huge imposing thing, I'll get there, it's just going to take time. Then we ran Choukraine so many times I thought I was going to fall over right there in the middle of the studio. The last time proved to be too much for everyone involved as the routine went right to hell. Alyne got lost, then our timing was completely off, then I got lost thinking "Aren't we supposed to be here?" and we just kind of ended with a whimper rather than a bang. I love the piece and the components work just fine, it's a matter of knowing which goes where without any music cues to guide us. How I'm going to have this and the new duet piece we're doing with veils by next Saturday is one of life's grand mysteries.
But I am not thinking about that right now, nope, no way. I'm going to enjoy my weekend off, dammit. I am Red Leader, "Stay on target, stay on target!" Yes, one thing at a time. Phew. Ok, better now.
Oh, before I forget, I'm really enjoying the book "Snake Hips" so far. It's about a woman who decides to take up bellydancing after a bad heartbreak and how it changes her life. And I really relate to the author already at 3 chapters in...go figure }:)
