I'm not even supposed to be here today.
Aug. 9th, 2002 08:59 amSince nobody got yesterday's quote I thought I'd hand you today's on a platter, can't ask for better than that.
I discovered last night that taking off a few nights per week is a good thing. It allows me to reassert a certain amount of order on my living conditions that makes me profoundly happy. It also allowed me to put together and use my latest toy, a Toro weedwhacker. It was oddly cathartic to get all those spots that have been evading me and my trusty push mower. I fussed over the front yard, then decided it was way too damn hot to bother with the back and that I was *really* hungry. So made up some scrambled eggs, then got to work on repotting some plants in the back. I'm thinking that unless stuff needs to go into the ground (i.e. trees, possibly the berry bushes, etc.) they're staying in pots. Who knows what the future will bring and how long we'll be at our current address, and I'd like to be able to just load my plants into a vehicle if I need to.
I was stunned to note last night that not only is my blackberry bush flowering, but the strawberries that have been living over at
tersa's place are blooming again too! I didn't think this was even possible. So in the hope of having at least one more strawberry from my current plants, I put down a layer of herbs beneath the plant to keep any such fruit from touching soil and immediately rotting. It should also help keep out any and all weeds. I now also have a big pot full of jasmine and mint and am obsessing about obtaining more lemon thyme, jasmine and lavendar. I'm also on the lookout for honeysuckle, if anyone happens to know where some could be obtained I'd be very grateful.
I came indoors around 8 feeling all accomplished and Zen-like. Gardening does that to me, and I swear if I had a hammock out back I'd probably just sleep out there as well. Let me putter around a yard for an hour or two and all life's problems suddenly disappear. *happy sigh*
At any rate, once indoors I managed to do something I've been meaning to do for a while, upload pictures!
