I have declared Jihad on the snails in my yard. When they went after my begonias and jasmine I got annoyed. When I found them literally covering my mint today I lost it. My inner Xena let loose with her battle cry and I grabbed the spade and started scooping them up and depositing them in the refuse bucket. In about 5 minutes I'd filled the scoop about 5 times. The brazen creatures were making a laborious dash across the lawn towards their vinca headquarters, very few made it alive.

At lunch I purchase more snail killer. They will die, oh yes, they will die.

This leads me to believe that the vinca is going to need to be severly cut back, if not eradicated entirely from some spots until the problem is under control. A weedwhacker has become an imperative. I'll beat the damn groundcover into submission and give those little bastards one less place to hide. I may also put a line of salt along the edges of that particular area, just enough to kill them, not enough to harm the soil, we'll see.

Hot water update: Still lukewarm, though I'm told the repair people will be out today. Now I was given their number to call and set up an appointment, I called first thing this morning. According to their voice mail their hours were 7-5, I called at 8:00 a.m. Nobody answered. So I left voice mail and am now waiting. If I haven't heard anything by noon I'm calling the landlord and having them take care of the issue. This whole thing is becoming rather absurd.

But I will do my "I love my house" mantra until thoughts of snails and cool water recede and are drowned out by the thought of hardwood floors, two fireplaces, a spacious yard and patio...ah yes, that's better.

On to more pleasant topics. Had a visit from the vivacious [livejournal.com profile] princessmei last evening, she, the housemate and I sat chatting for a good four hours or so and realized that we really must get together more often. We simply have too much to say to one another to fit it into one night every few months! The thought that hit both [livejournal.com profile] aelfsciene and I simultaneously was that we could entertain now! Sure the place isn't entirely set up and only most of the boxes are unpacked, but we can have people over! We can plan get togethers and people can both fit in our house and be welcomed there by our housemate. Bliss!

Tonight is class and I must remember to give [livejournal.com profile] esmerel the Michael Crawford video I found for her. I promised as soon as I dug it up I'd loan it to her, and I have. Now to get it from my car and into her hands....

Tomorrow I aid my fellow vegetarians in NERO by creating some veggie hot tamales for them. I will also be experimenting with a vegan version, though I have less faith in that recipe. We shall see.

Crunches: 0 (up too late gabbing and decided to pass out instead)
Snail death count: 50+
