Homeward Bound
Jun. 14th, 2002 08:54 amToday is credit check day and the new roomie may find out as early as this morning whether or not the new house is definitely ours. She turned in the deposit last night and I know a credit check doesn't take more than a few minutes, so there shouldn't theoretically be anything holding us back at this point. Gods there are times when I enjoy sitting back smugly and thoroughly reveling in the fact that my credit is flawless. This is one of those times.
One big stressor down, lots of interesting little ones to go. Packing and moving doesn't bother me in the slightest, we've got until the end of July, plenty of time even if the two of us do the majority of it on our own. Furnishings are going to be a factor sooner rather than later. We've got the futon for our family room/guest room space, and the little loveseat for the living room, but that's it for the moment. My birthday gift from my darling Erik (thank you so much, I got it yesterday when I arrived home!!!), will go a long way towards acquiring something new and wonderful at Pier One. But for a little while the place is going to look a bit empty. An Ikea trip may be in order at some point...hmm, perhaps we can lure Lauriekins into accompanying us. Mwah-ha-ha.
The storage space we're going to have available to us in the new place is downright mind boggling. I may actually be able to take the majority of my stuff out of boxes this time. That thought alone is enough to put a big smile on my face. And our huge garage is whispering ever so invitingly, "Fill me!"
Have I mentioned how wonderful the yard is yet? If not I'm being terribly remiss and I apologize. Allow me to take just a few minutes to rhapsodize on this subject alone. We have a front yard, two side yards and a huge backyard. I'm not exaggerating here, it is indeed huge, extending well back from the patio area. Dear lord, we can get a grill! And we can plant fruit trees! And herb gardens! And strawberries, blackberries and raspberries! The kitchen witch in me is jumping up and down and giggling gleefully. Of course part of that is the knowledge that I'll be able to go outside and hold circles again for the first time since I moved out here...bliss...
And I may just have to get that hammock now.
I have to say this year's birthday beats the living snot out of last year's where I was:
1. recovering from a breakup
2. devastated to discover my beloved cat had been hit by a car and killed
3. terrified because my best friend was about to undergo life threatening surgery
4. on call for jury duty
Yeah, I'd say this year is a definite improvement.
As for everyone who chimed in with a congratulations yesterday, thank you so very much, you're all on the list for our housewarming party, I promise! And for anyone who has or does live in Santa Clara, do you know what cable company they use? I have to get in touch with AT&T Broadband anyway, but figured I'd ask.
I'm just going to sit here and grin and mentally layout the new place in my head.
