Today is credit check day and the new roomie may find out as early as this morning whether or not the new house is definitely ours. She turned in the deposit last night and I know a credit check doesn't take more than a few minutes, so there shouldn't theoretically be anything holding us back at this point. Gods there are times when I enjoy sitting back smugly and thoroughly reveling in the fact that my credit is flawless. This is one of those times.

One big stressor down, lots of interesting little ones to go. Packing and moving doesn't bother me in the slightest, we've got until the end of July, plenty of time even if the two of us do the majority of it on our own. Furnishings are going to be a factor sooner rather than later. We've got the futon for our family room/guest room space, and the little loveseat for the living room, but that's it for the moment. My birthday gift from my darling Erik (thank you so much, I got it yesterday when I arrived home!!!), will go a long way towards acquiring something new and wonderful at Pier One. But for a little while the place is going to look a bit empty. An Ikea trip may be in order at some point...hmm, perhaps we can lure Lauriekins into accompanying us. Mwah-ha-ha.

The storage space we're going to have available to us in the new place is downright mind boggling. I may actually be able to take the majority of my stuff out of boxes this time. That thought alone is enough to put a big smile on my face. And our huge garage is whispering ever so invitingly, "Fill me!"

Have I mentioned how wonderful the yard is yet? If not I'm being terribly remiss and I apologize. Allow me to take just a few minutes to rhapsodize on this subject alone. We have a front yard, two side yards and a huge backyard. I'm not exaggerating here, it is indeed huge, extending well back from the patio area. Dear lord, we can get a grill! And we can plant fruit trees! And herb gardens! And strawberries, blackberries and raspberries! The kitchen witch in me is jumping up and down and giggling gleefully. Of course part of that is the knowledge that I'll be able to go outside and hold circles again for the first time since I moved out here...bliss...

And I may just have to get that hammock now.

I have to say this year's birthday beats the living snot out of last year's where I was:

1. recovering from a breakup
2. devastated to discover my beloved cat had been hit by a car and killed
3. terrified because my best friend was about to undergo life threatening surgery
4. on call for jury duty

Yeah, I'd say this year is a definite improvement.

As for everyone who chimed in with a congratulations yesterday, thank you so very much, you're all on the list for our housewarming party, I promise! And for anyone who has or does live in Santa Clara, do you know what cable company they use? I have to get in touch with AT&T Broadband anyway, but figured I'd ask.

I'm just going to sit here and grin and mentally layout the new place in my head.

Won't have time to hit Pier1 before tomorrow, but hopefully I'll be able to tell you the credit check worked out, as a proxy present. ^_~

I'm so hyper! Even with site madness at work, I'm so hyper!

Deep calming breaths, dear, I'm feeling quite secure about having the place, as far as I'm concerned it's a done deal. Now just take a moment, close your eyes and picture the backyard when we get finished with it. Imagine the sights, the smells, the texture of soft grass under barefeet. Isn't that relaxing?

Well, it's not worry about getting the place that has me hyper, it's just getting the place. ^_^;; Wanna be home packing, not here at work. Hell, wanna be in the new house, plotting furniture and stuff.

I like the idea of renting a van from U-haul and picking up things from Ikea--hard to bring a couch back in either of our cars. And a table, if we don't end up with one from another source. A kitchen table, wow. I haven't had one of those since I lived at home. O.O

Definitely a van, no question...well that or a pickup, in any case one of the two would be in order. I know I can drive your average pickup without difficulty but I've never tried the other.

Well, as long as it's automatic, I can drive anything. And I just don't trust the weather, I guess, and would feel safer with a van than an uncovered pickup. Depends on when we want to go, and what's cheaper, really. ^_^

U-haul vans and pickups are the same $19.95 + milage a day. Vans are nice in that you can pile stuff much higher in them than in a pickup...

Thanks, hon, and thanks for hosting the game last night! Of course watching you sequin your veil has made me think I should really go get some more fabric tonight and make one or two more myself...

Unfortunately, if you want to use the same fabric I did, you'll have to sew a big seam down part of it, cuz it's just not nearly wide enough. :)

No kidding? It's my birthday, too. ;)

No way! Happy birthday! Damn I wish you lived closer I'd take you out for dinner tonight (assuming you didn't already have some fascinating, possibly sinful plans for the evening, of course *G*). Another Gemini twin in the world, how wonderful! I already have a cousin and an uncle sharing this day too.

Gemini Twin! ;)

I wish we lived closer too!! My bday plans are fairly uninvolved this year. What are you doing? I'm just hanging out with a handful of friends for dinner tonight and doing the family thing tomorrow night. How old are you? I am turning 27. Weird. Do you ever get a gemini vibe from people? I mean, I guess it's always more of a hindsight thing for me, but it's like now that I know you're a gemini and we share a bday, it doesn't surprise me at all. ;)

I'll be down for LinuxWorld in August... would love to hang out with you!

Oh yes we must get together when you're down for Linux World!!! As far as my plans for the evening, pretty much dinner out and then packing, packing, packing. Yeah, it's quite the glamorous life I lead *G*

And yes I do think Geminis are one of the easier signs to spot, then again I may be biased }:)

What, because we're generally extroverted, hyper, talkative, and all that? And we're notoriously easy to distract?

Well I was thinking more along the lines of slender, quick thinking and vivacious, but easily distracted works too *G*

Happy Birthday, Ellie!
And congrats on the house!
(it's too late to jinx, yes?)

So... wanna see how many places in your yard we can put an archery target?
I happen to have one, you see, and an easel too, if desired.

Happy birthday

Having a fine house and yard (yard!) seems like a fine birthday present. Doubly nice given how much last year sucked... karmic payback time?

I certainly hope so, 2002 is definitely turning out to be a much better year all around. Perhaps it's an even/odd thing, like with Star Trek movies *G*

So, er.

What kind of things do you guys need, in terms of items that would make nifty housewarming gifts?

(A NERO membership, perhaps? Mua-ha-ha! Just kidding. :) )

Actually a NERO membership would be a quintessentially Silicon Valley gift for such a thing, wouldn't it? *G*

NERO membership for Ellie
