Seriously. They keep popping up onto my window sill and just sitting there staring at me. I swear a couple of them have followed me around when I walk to and from my car as well. But dear gods in heaven what do they want of me?!

Ahem, anyway, settling into the new office though I still don't like the layout. I'll cope. I do, however, love the surroundings and the damp, woodsy smell that hits me every time I step outside. I think next week I'll wear my sneakers and spend my lunch breaks doing some walking around and exploring. And when I get tired of exploring our office complex there's a lovely golf course right across the street that I can roam around. Not on the course, mind you, but there's a shaded sidewalk around it that should do nicely.

My horoscope says I'm in for a run of good luck today. About damn time, says I.

Now if I could just get my weight under control life would be good. I just don't get it, I'm watching what I eat (ok, I had a major misstep on Sunday, but that's just one meal), counting calories, exercising and the scale keeps going up. I have a sort of line in the sand when it comes to weight and I'm standing on it at the moment. I suppose the only thing left to do is to cut back even further. *sigh* This used to be so easy when I was in my 20's.

I'm sure you don't really need my meddling, but here's a fun fact to know and share. Back when I was weight training 5x a week I went from 180# up to 210#, and dropped four dress sizes at the same time. Muscle mass really does weigh more than fat. ;-)

Believe me, nothing would make me happier than to believe it was that, but I'm absolutely horrified when I look in the mirror these days. Serious flab, I mean I can't even see my muscles any more. And I swear I'm hovering between 1500 and 1700 calories a day. I know some of it's water weight right now, but not all of it, you know?
Argh! It's so frustrating.

Maybe the squirrels think you're charming and witty but are too shy to approach you directly.

Maybe they think your new office is driving you nuts?

What has already been said about muscle weighing more than fat is scientifically sound indeed, but I think I should add another layer to this mystery...the problem could be that you aren't getting enough calories. You see, when you don't get enough nutrition your body goes into "starvation mode" and hoards what you eat as fat INSTEAD of building muscle. You may want to reconsider cutting back any further on your caloric intake.

Of course, I'm really the last person who should be giving nutritional advice to anyone (just ask Leah about my atrocious cookie-and-dairy intake), but I have a friend who is downright obsessive about preaching the food gospel and I suppose some of that has worn off on me as well...
