I've rediscovered an old hero of mine, the Sheriff of Nottingham from the Robin of Sherwood series. I was watching "Alan a Dale" and the scene where he casually gets up out of his bath and orders Sir Guy to towel him, then gives an imperious, "Harder!" made me fall over laughing. He's such a beautifully bitchy man, and the relationship between him and Guy is so delightfully...ambiguous.

I think I'd make a good High Sheriff. I could stalk around Nottingham castle slapping around the staff and ordering my blonde bitch boy to do my bidding. "Towel me dry, boy, I feel a chill coming on. Now shimmy out of that armor and put on the dress, I've a mind to play Wolf's Head and village maid." Hell, I was born for the job. If only I'd been born back then, there really isn't much of a call for imperious, abusive, heavy-handed Norman lords these days. More's the pity.

Of course I'd want a few Hobbits about the place as well *G*

LOL, well let me see what I can do about obtaining a big drafty castle and an appointment by the King to keep order in a small English county and I think we're all set!

You know, you can get big drafty Victorian houses with turrets around here... kind of like a wooden castle. And, one can keep order in a very small country, known as the sovereign state of The Back Yard: "Off with you, foul feline intruder! Stealing from those rich with fish and other tasty bits and giving to the poor - bah!".

Appointment by a king might be tough. How about a queen? We have no shortage of queens in the area, and I know several that just love giving people orders.
