That has become my new mantra, as soon as it stops being "OH MY GOD I'M MELTING!" hot I'm going to get a lot of stuff done. Really. Until then I have precisely enough energy to splay on flat surfaces in front of fans and no more. How I'm going to get through class tonight is a mystery to me, but I'm going, dammit.

And this is a fun concept, create a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen of your own:
(swiped unapologetically from [livejournal.com profile] kuro_neko's journal)

1. Choose five to seven characters.
2. They may be from books, movies, comics, TV shows, games, and real life -- but no traditional superheroes.
3. They may be from any place in the universe, any time. They do not have to be from the same time/place as the orginal League.
4. You must identify the recruiter, the villain, and the leader, and there must be at least one female.
5. Optional, you may identify their main mode of transportation.

As I'm a geek, I'll make geekly choices:
The League- The Doctor, Luke Skywalker, Dr. Daniel Jackson, Agent Dana Scully, Raistlin Majere, Riddick.
The Leader- Captain Sisko
The Recruiter- Kerr Avon
The Villain- Darth Vader
Transportation- The TARDIS

A truly perverse part of me is tempted to do an Art History version of this too. My sister's already done one with 80's tv show characters (Michael Knight, Manimal, etc.).

And how cool is this?
Annie Lennox To Sing For ROTK!.
As if I weren't looking forward to this flick enough already.

Saturday got up and went to my volunteer training up in Palo Alto, ended up with a lapful of kitten (my favorite, the little calico) rather than doing my helping I'm afraid. Was told there really wasn't enough room for 3 people to clean cages anyway and that socializing was important too so I didn't feel too bad. When one is kitten-napped one is expected to be an obedient monkey and give scritches and provide a soft lap at this shelter. This I can definitely do.

Went home and sweated a lot, assumed a prone position and then didn't move again for the majority of the day. My sinuses flared up again and I got pummeled by another headache from hell. Decided that a cool shower and sleep was the only thing for it so that's what I did. Sunday I got up bright and early to go clean cages on my own for the first time. I would've gotten the whole thing done much more quickly but the shelter owner needed help vaccinating some kittens and then some foster moms came in to take their kittens home so I got interrupted a lot. I'm going to chalk it up to that rather than being distracted by at least a dozen kittens bopping around. Found out they have the most gorgeous, but shy, little Siamese now and I made a little squeaking noise when I saw it. I have always wanted a Siamese, I think they're just exquisite animals, and I've never met one that didn't have personality to spare. I may have to spend some time "socializing" that one just to get my fix.

Got pounced on a few times by a fearless little black shorthair with white feet. He found the broom a really cool toy and stalked and leapt on it for a good five minutes before being distracted by the hellions romping through the shelter. I found myself keeping up a quiet dialogue with all of the cats as I cleaned out their cages, and the tone seemed to calm them quite a bit. I have no idea what I was saying, but as long as nobody was out in the area I guess it doesn't matter.

Then ran over to Castro St. for lunch with Aelf and the artist formerly known as [livejournal.com profile] mister_sunshine at Sue's Indian restaurant. If you've never been you should check them out, especially their lunch buffet, yum! The vegetable curry was very, very good, and we got a huge supply of nan to accompany the meal. All in all, very economical and tasty, two thumbs up. Then home to shower and change before we headed over to [livejournal.com profile] mallen's housewarming. Everyone was huddled in the shade of his backyard trying to stay as cool as possible. Not much luck when it was 90+ degrees outside, sadly. We gifted him with fruit and then chatted with a bunch of folks for far too brief a time before we had to boogie. Zoomed to Menara and made it in plenty of time for dinner, yay!

Lots o' dancers and a live band in air conditioned splendor, aw yeah! Ate far too much food, though I did try to be good, and really enjoyed the band. Brothers of the Baladi are every bit as good live as they are on the recordings and they seemed to have a great time playing for and with the dancers. Saw lots of great dancing, some good dancing, a few mediocre, and was once again really happy to have found Alyne and bailed on Una. Her troupe always makes me think of a cheerleading squad, the entirely too cute and popular kids that used to make my life hell in high school are the only ones that seem to get tapped to join. Sure they were nice looking, but most of them didn't know the choreographies they were dancing. Aelf would occasionally lean over and ask, "Was that supposed to be a maia?" I generally had to shrug, though I did rather viciously lean over and say, "Choukraine and Princess of Cairo would kick their asses."

Sometimes it's hard not to be at least a little bitter when you see cute, hot little things doing one or two moves and getting tons of applause while the really good dancers are all but ignored. Anisa put on a helluva show and had incredible control and grace but the audience didn't really get into it. I, on the other hand, sat there with my jaw hanging open. And a young man named Marko got up and wowed us all with his enthusiasm and skill. Sword balancing even, you go boy!

An but it was the lovely Miranda that made my heart skip a beat. I'm sure had [livejournal.com profile] mallen been there he'd have needed a drool bucket. She was a gorgeous red-head with an impish face and a lovely body. And oh her costume! Just exquisite! At the end of the evening the Brothers played a rip-roaring finale and Marko came over and pulled us up into the mass of folks dancing. I started shimmying and shakin' it and caught Miranda's eye so we started following one another's lead. Again, little animated hearts popping over my head *G*

All in all a lovely night and well worth the price of dinner and the show.
