God it feels good to be proud to be an American again, doesn't it?
Meet your 44th president, folks:

It's really hard to say which of the many jubilant Obama victory parties would be the most fun to be attending currently, but that Atlanta party looks rockin'!

BTW: They call me President Obama

Also, I do believe we can call this a mandate, no? Hee.

Come what may, for the rest of our lives, this. Is. Our. Night.

I know it's been hard to grasp for a long time, but tonight, see it, feel it, believe it: this is the greatest goddamn country on the face of the earth.

NON. NOBIS. SOLUM.

I was just happy to wake up this morning and realize that I wasn't dreaming the whole thing and that Obama really did get elected!!!

Still biting my nails about prop 8 though. It's a really sad commentary on our country that we can't just love our fellow person and let them enjoy the same freedoms and rights as the rest of the country. It really is no different than the civil rights movement or the women's movement. There is still a portion of our country that is down-trodden and supressed. That needs to change. If race and gender bias can be defeated, why can't sexual bias be defeated as well?

You put that very beautifully, I just wish we could've had a few more anti-Prop H8 commercials that said it so well.

Well hell, lets make our own commercials then, eh?

The thing that gets me is this: We *all* know that this bullshit is theologically based. It completely pisses me off that something govermental is being decided in a religious way. What has happened to the seperation of church and state? Doesn't freedom of religion also mean freedom *from* religion??? This is less about morals than it is about bible thumping. The whole friggin thing is unconstitutional to the Nth degree. The only thing that anyone ever says when speaking out against same sex marriage is that it's forbidden in the bible and some kind of abomination against God. Well excuse me, but your novel and your fantasies about invisible beings don't rule the rest of us. It's time, once and for all, to kick ALL religions out of any kind of government proceeding. Especially since not all religions (or lack there of) are represented equally. All people are created equal, Black, white, man, woman, gay, straight and all of us should enjoy the same rights. I am a heterosexual woman and to me marriage is a pact between two *people* regardless of gender. Why should anyone else care? No one else is being asked or forced to marry someone of the same sex. There is no cheapening of marriage going on. They are just trying to allow everyone the right to marry the person they love and want to spend the rest of their lives with. Allowing couples to make sure that their partners are taken care of in the event of something unfortunate happening can't be a bad thing. And I will tell you this...I think that Gay couples treat the concept of marriage with far more reverence than their hetero counterparts. Straight people fall in and out of marriage at an alarming rate. To me, that's doing more harm to the sanctity of marrige then letting 2 people of the same sex get married will *ever* do.

And yes, I realize this has turned into a bit of a rant, but my feelings on the subject are running much higher than even I anticipated. I am quivering with rage over the injustice that has been done, not only to gay couples in California, but to everyone everywhere regardless of their orientation. When we allow this kind of bigotry to color even one aspect of our lives it puts a black mark on the soul of humanity as a whole. I just feel like history has taught us nothing. Where are all the people who fought for equality, for social justice for the black people, for the women, for the veterans?? Why aren't we hearing their outraged voices over this blatent discimination against our fellow person? Why is this allowed to happen? Allowing the relgious to trample Gay rights will only lead to much darker things down the road for the rest of us and I don't want my children, children who could grow up to be gay themselves, to grow up in that kind of world. I want them, and all children, all people, everywhere, to live in a world where it's ok to just be yourself, whoever you are. I want government and religion to keep the hell out of my bedroom and everyone elses bedroom the world over. No one is being hurt by allowing gay people the right to marry. It doesn't cheapen marriage, in fact it strengthens it. I grew up with divorced parents, have watched other couples that I loved and admired either grow apart or get divorced. Of the four couples that got married around the same time that I did, I am the only one still with my original spouse. At a time when the divorce rate is astronomical and most every married person I know is on at least their second marriage, I just can't believe that 'family values' is the reason for excluding a part of the population. It's just putting a fresh coat of paint on the tired old fence that is bigotry.

I just wish getting that off my chest had made me feel better about the whole thing, more calm or more zen or just more accepting that that's just the way of the world, but the feeling of wretchedness lingers. :(
