The whole time that sequence was playing, I kept thinking to myself, "Daaaamn. Ellie's gonna go absolutely bugnuts when she sees this!" And I'm right with you on having always had a desire to see Kurt kick ass and take names. Only in this case, the movie actually did better than anything I could have imagined on my own.
I did indeed eep aloud in the theater on a couple of occasions. If you get the chance I highly recommend grabbing a copy of the novelization for the film. Chris Claremont does it, finally someone with a background in the characters and an understanding of their powers doing a novelization. Go figure.
