First, happy birthday wishes to [livejournal.com profile] tersa who so far seems to be having kind of a sucky one. Sorry, hon!

Second, waking up at 5:30 in the morning with a panic attack, freaking out about not getting the job I interviewed for this week is not a lot of fun. Money is starting to get seriously tight despite my intense budgeting and right now I've got no other job leads. So, yeah...

Third I turned in my lease termination notice and got the list of requirements the complex has for move out conditions and at the very least I'm going to have to pay to have the place painted. I swear if I get anything back from my security deposit I'm going to be astonished.

Why on earth are you going to have to pay to get the place painted?

I second that. I thought it was illegal to require that. Particularly as you've been in there for over a year.

It's actually pretty common if you've been in a place under 24 months. The only reason I got out of it at the last place I lived was because they were renovating all the apartments and had to re-paint themselves anyway.

Hunh, weird ... I've never experienced that in any of the places I lived.

And, according to this "Painting is not required, nor is filling in nail holes. These are not valid deductions."

I don't believe that to be true, actually. I've easily lived in over a dozen apartments, and never once have I had to paint. Most of those were under 24 months. This is only common if: a) you painted the walls a non-neutral color while living there or b) you have made large marks on the walls or damaged the wall in some other way.

The websites I just looked at suggested that you have them come out and do an initial inspection telling you, if you left the apartment the way it is today, what would they charge you for. Then you only have to do those things, and nothing more. This forces them to show you what it is about the walls that is different than when you moved in. And have them, of course, put this in writing. This is your right as a tenant and they shouldn't be surprised by the request.

Hmm, I'll bring that up at the walk through when I should receive an itemized list of everything they want to charge me for.

*cough* Is my righteous indignation showing? ;) Sorry about that. Prometheus is just cheesing me off.

I just spent my annoyance on scrubbing the kitchen down. My oven positively gleams and the fridge isn't far behind. The windows have all been cleaned, though I'll need to get some more Windex before tackling the outside. Kim and Aggie are on the tv to spur me on as well :)

*laughs* Hey, I recommended that in my hugpages article on housecleaning!

I should have known that anger would be a nice catalyst for you. ;)
