First and foremost, if you've got a few minutes you should fill this out:

Second, the first day amongst the unemployed has been pretty low key so far, applied to a couple of jobs and I've got still more insurance papers to fill out. Haven't heard back yet about the contract job but I did find a good position at Google I'd be well suited for. Not that I have high hopes about getting a foot in the door at Google, but it's worth a try. Already applied for unemployment so that's done, and my bank account should hold out for a month or two if necessary.

So things aren't too dire at the moment. I want to get a bit of housework done today, but aside from that and watching some SG-1 with [livejournal.com profile] cyranocyrano my day is pretty free. It's rather nice and relaxing really. I plan to enjoy it while it lasts.

Now a couple of things that will require cut tags:

I still don't like Martha Jones and I've tried...god knows I've tried. Even though they've given her an intelligence upgrade, and apparently some bizarre TARDIS-induced immunity system upgrade, she still just makes me want to lock her in a closet somewhere for a few years. Please just let her stay in UNIT and far away from any shows I might conceivably watch.

The concept of Tosh and Owen as a couple makes me want to wretch, I mean I want the writers to stop kicking Tosh around because she's like the female version of Geordie La Forge/Miles O'Brien. It's just kinda sad when they beat her up for no reason at all, it's like kicking a puppy. And even if you don't particularly like the puppy, it's still sad to watch it getting beaten up repeatedly.

How any woman with even the most basic level of self respect can stand there and agree when a guy she's interested in says, "I'll go out with you but I reserve the right to flirt with everyone else on the planet". I mean, Jesus woman, grow yourself a goddamn backbone. I'm not sure which of the two characters disgusts me more, to be quite honest.

Jack was at least moderately closer to the guy I used to like on Dr. Who, all chirpy and flirty, so I rather appreciated that aspect. I just don't expect to see it again 'cause continuity on this show is rare at best. But the FTW moment of the ep was far and away Ianto's yet again. When Martha asks whether Jack and he are a couple and Ianto pauses and responds, "We...dabble." I just about lost it. I have in mind to make a series of multi-fandom slash icons with just that phrase on it. The later bits about Jack being "innovative" and "bordering on the avante garde", and the distant look that comes over his face when he's thinking about the sex, was just perfect.

The thing is I can't keep watching a show for these little moments. I know I keep saying that, but this time I really mean it. Although if they'll throw in some more hot boy on boy action (particularly if it involves Ianto) I suspect my willpower will crumble.

My god how I've missed Carson. Seriously, I almost burst into tears just watching him sitting in the iso room, gazing around in curiosity as he was being studied. I'm not sure I like the whole clone plot, but I will say that the writers gave Paul and David some seriously juicy dialog that made it way more poignant than I'd expected. Clone Carson's confusion and pain just made me want to wrap my arms around him, and watching Rodney's delight at having his best friend back again, no matter how or why, was beyond sweet. I also squeed with delight every time Carson came under fire and Rodney threw himself between him and the oncoming bullets. Oh Rodney!

I've never been a McBeck person, but I'm beginning to think I should at least do a bit of reading in the genre after this ep.

The Michael/Teyla stuff continues to annoy me. Yeah I know they have to get rid of the baby somehow, but this is just lame. I'm beginning to dream of someone putting a bullet in Michael's head. He's even overtaken Kolya as "Most in need of being shot in the goddamn head" bad guy in the series. Just end him, please, just end him.

The finale with Carson, poor, brave, sweet Carson going into the stasis chamber really did bring a tear to my eye. If they don't bring him back for a few eps next season I may have to stop watching entirely.
