Had a lovely, peaceful weekend, including [livejournal.com profile] aelfsciene's birthday tea where I got to see and talk to a lot of folks I do either with rather rarely these days. I also displayed borderline unnatural levels of self control and avoided scones ([livejournal.com profile] tamago's scones at that!), so I guess this time I'm really serious about losing some weight. I did end up missing dance class, but the idea of combining lots of spinning and a sinus headache seemed...unwise.

Watched the latest Torchwood, "Adam" and it caused me to sigh a lot and wonder why the hell I was bothering with the damn series. Then Ianto had a couple of cute scenes and I said, "Oh right, that's why." Gods I'm easy. He's really the only thing that keeps me tuning in, though. The whole show just comes off as borderline readable fanfic, the kind I'd read if I were bored and none of my favorite writers were posting anything.

My Sunday plans ended up canceled after all so I ended up reading some very good SGA slash and watching "Velvet Goldmine". And if there is a better combination of activities to engage in I cannot think of them at the moment. That statement should probably depress the hell out of me, but strangely enough it doesn't.

Overall definitely a watchable episode though why in the hell the teasers all claimed Teyla was walking into a "replicator" trap is utterly beyond me. That aside a couple of observations, first why in the hell do all the main characters seem to want to sex up the least interesting or visually appealing people? Their S.O.'s are inevitably as dull as dishwater, and Teyla's was just as disappointing. She'd rather sleep with him than Ronon? Seriously? Wow that's just unbelievably sad.

Next, after all this time we're expected to believe that Teyla saying, "Hey I had this prophetic dream I think we should follow up on" would not be flashing some serious warning bells for everybody? As soon as it she mentioned it everybody should've been running around yelling, "Wraith trap! Wraith trap!" But no, the boys seem to chalk it up to imagination or pregnancy related weirdness or something. Gah.

Also it struck me as sad that it took the characters so long to figure out Michael was involved in all of this. I pretty much had it figured out as soon as Keller mentioned the new Wraith/human killing disease. Homicidal mad scientist with a grudge against both the Wraith and humans...hmm, now who does that sound like?

But on the plus side we had the absolutely adorable moment of Rodney gifting Teyla with a tweaked iPod for the baby. We also got Rodney actually making an effort to support a friend, at least to her face, and yay character development! It was also nice that despite knowing that Carson was going to be found in this one that it took me a few seconds after Michael said he'd "had help" for me to figure out who he was talking about. And Carson...oh gods how I've missed him. I frankly don't care if he's a replicator, or a clone or an alternate universe version, they'd damned well better keep him around for a bit.

It was also nice to see Teyla doing a little ass kicking in this one, she hasn't entirely lost her edge, thankfully. And hey, Lorne's from the Bay Area! I could almost hear the glee of the Lorne slashers around the world at that revelation.

The one thing that could've made this episode the best thing ever was if Teyla, having seen her baby daddy all fucked up by Michael had screamed after the guy, "You turned my boyfriend into a zombie! You DICK!" Alas, it was not to be. Guess this is how they're going to get rid of the baby for next season. I'm just really hoping they don't pull an Angel and toss the kid back into the series after a season as a surly teenager.
