For those who are interested in unloading some tech trash but don't want it to just end up polluting a landfill, I highly recommend checking out Green Citizen, a bay area organization that will take it all off your hands and either recycle or dispose of it safely. They'll take most computer equipment off your hands for free, and most media for a very low price. I'm unloading all of my ancient audio tapes and floppy disks as well as most of my video tapes there. The prices are very reasonable, and it gives you a good feeling to know this stuff won't be going into the waste stream. Do yourself and the Earth a favor and consider checking out Green Citizen!

They're super convenient, take drop offs, and easy to find. You can also get a box from them that you fill up with stuff and take in when you're done filling it. They'll even take batteries, cell phones, you name it.

They're almost right around the corner! Much closer than Weirdstuff (which is where I've been dumping my tech garbage). Thanks for the pointer!

They are indeed, and have very friendly and helpful staff as well. I'm going to swing by tonight and drop some more stuff off I think :)

Seems like a great idea, but I can't get to any of the locations. I don't know how many pounds of video tapes I have, but it'll probably cost me a fortune to get rid of them. It would be worth it, however, to have them out of my way.

Maybe when my brother is here over the holidays I can talk him into taking me there. I'm sure I've got some other electronic waste as well, if I look for it. I've been looking for a way to get rid of my old video tapes, and didn't know where they could be recycled, so this will be helpful.

If your brother doesn't help out, let me know and after my move I'll give you a hand taking stuff over there. I've got a trunk full myself at the moment and I can probably give you a good idea how much a boxfull of video tapes will cost to recycle when I take them back this weekend.

Thanks! Much obliged! I hope the move is going well. How are the cats taking all the packing uproar?

Kage's pretty stressed out by it but Pye seems to think it's some sort of a game :)
