Took yesterday off to spend with my friend John so I'm a day behind at work, alas, and I've got more on my plate than any one sane human ever should. If I'm a bit incommunicado this week I apologize, we will return to my regularly scheduled life next week. Couple of quick things:
1) [livejournal.com profile] mallen, you make the best veggie burgers and no-meat bar-b-que sauce and you got me frosted cherry pop-tarts, which made my night Saturday!
2) made it through the performance in one piece, we did not knock over the lighting fixtures, set the place on fire, or smack any audience member with our veils. I consider this a great success.
3) the Sacramento Kings rock!
4) the Sharks actually remembered how to play hockey last night and Matt Bradley got into one of the better fights I've seen all season, though Nabby picked a particularly bad time to decide he wanted to go walkabout.
5) Peggy Sue's makes damn fine mocha milkshakes, though I can already feel it on my hips.
6) Mitsubishi Lancers are nice little cars.
7) finally got my new bank account settled, go me!

That's it for now, more when I have time to breathe again!

Peggy Sue's does, indeed, have fucking fantastic milkshakes. I love that joint. And just going in there and *breathing* adds two pounds to your hips.

But I'm sure you'll have no problems shimmying the weight right back off again. I'm glad it sounds like you and John had fun both at the b-ball and hockey games! Piz-ZA!

I'd actually like to investigate making my own meatless patties, instead of buying pre-packaged ones. I'm afraid, though, that they use all sorts of chemicals that wouldn't be practical to use in a home kitchen to fabricate such things. Any ideas or pointers?

As a matter of fact I think I have some recipes at home if you'd like to take a look at them. One of the main ingredients of most of the veggie burgers you get in stores is TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein) which you can actually buy yourself at places like http://www.bulkfoods.com/health.asp
but I'm betting you could find it at almost any health food stores as well.

I'll look into it.

In the meantime, I actually liked the Trader Joe's patty a good bit. I'd still choose a cheeseburger, but in a pinch, I wouldn't mind the TJ patty.

I haven't tried that one, would you say it's better than the Morningstar Griller line? And how does it stack up price-wise?

I liked better. Think it grilled better too. I don't remember how much it was. I'd say it's probably about the same price.

Safeway used to carry TVP in their tofu-dog section. I'm not sure if they still do.
