Good lord, [livejournal.com profile] elo_sf warned me that he was crying by the end of this one, and I totally joined him. I am a big, blubbery mess at the moment, wiping away tears and sniffling. It's really quite pathetic.

This is far and away the best episode of the series so far, and they're going to be very hard pressed to top it. The scene where the Doctor first lays eyes on Sarah Jane was a thing of beauty, that moment of surprise and delight when he sees her and tries to cover and pretend he's just John Smith. Only topped by the moment where Sarah Jane stumbles upon the TARDIS, the mix of pleasure and pain that washes over her is just so poignant.

I'm not sure I could pick a favorite moment, there were so many good ones to choose from. Mickey's gradual change from reluctant sidekick to all but begging the Doctor to take him along. Rose's realization that she's not the Doctor's only companion...and only love. Sarah Jane's heartbroken, "I waited for you...why didn't you come back?" The Doctor's subtle admission of his love for both women, and the fact that he knows, and has always known that both relationships were doomed.

Ah gods this episode kicked my ass so thoroughly on every level, though the final parting between SJS and the Doctor really did me in. "Oh it's not good-bye..." the Doctor begins blithely, only to have Sarah Jane interrupt him with, "No, say it Doctor, this time I need you to say it."

*sob*

And K-9! Such a good little dog. Gods I'm so glad he left her a new one at the end, as [livejournal.com profile] tamago commented to me, "Maybe it means they'll bring back 'K-9 and Company'...only good this time." Heh, two Dr. Who spin-offs? Works for me!

And Tony Head can be my Headmaster any day...rrrrawrrr :)

[livejournal.com profile] enuffistoomuch and I just watched this episode Tuesday night and loved it! Tony Head was delicious and seeing Sarah and K-9 again just was the bee's knees! Now if only Lela would make an appearance...didn't SJS look great? Even though she's not one of my favorite companions -- all that screaming and fainting -- it was grand to see her again! I wish they would bring back the Master somehow...

I'm thinking an animated icon of Rose and Sarah comparing beasties they've battled may need to be created :)

I have to say the one thing about the new Doctor Who series is that it has finally taken a somewhat one dimensional character and fleshed him out into a real person with honest, believable emotions. Can you imagine Pertwee or Baker blurting out, "My Sarah Jane!" or coming just *this close* to saying "I love you"?

OMG Elisabeth Sladen looked *stunning*! And now I want to go back and watch "The Hand of Fear" and "The Deadly Assasin" to be reminded why he had to leave her behind in the first place.

And I have high hopes for the Master making a re-appearance, though this season I suspect we'll have to settle for Cybermen. That's ok as long as we finally get the Torchwood reveal and Captain Jack back at least briefly!

"Pyramids of Mars" was one of my all time favorite episodes and that did feature Sarah prominently now that I think of it. I guess I didn't really recall that they parted rather abruptly either...need to check it out again I guess. Is it wrong of me to want some freaking Blood stones to come trundling by? Was it just us or did the Venetian robots in next week's trailer remind you of the creepy "Robots of Death"?

Totally Robots of Death, no question, and I lost my shit when SJ topped Rose's monster list with "The Loch Ness monster!" Again, I really need to make an icon of that.
BTW did I tell you I picked up a copy of "The Talons of Weng Chiang" on Amazon? :)

"The Talons of Weng Chiang" is certainly my favorite *ever* Dr. Who episode hands down. It has everything...my favorite Dr., favorite companion, victorian London, a creepy puppet and a giant rat!!
