I was very pleased with myself last night for not only passing on my addiction to the Eyezmaze puzzles (check out Grow Cube if you have at least an hour to spare), but in solving the latest one first as well. Not that it's saying much as it took me hours to do, but still I did it and I felt an absurd degree of accomplishment by the end. The finished puzzle can be seen here. Yes, I was just that proud of myself that I had to screencap it for posterity's sake.
tersa's for dinner and a review of last season's ender before the "special" started. And by "special" I mean an hour of scenes strung together with narration by Peter Coyote (thank you
jakejr for letting me know who it was) with nothing new to add whatsoever to the show if you'd, you know, watched it last season. Fortunately Grow Cube kept me entertained during that hour.
Some random thoughts as they occur to me this morning:
1) 70's pop can be quite creepy under the right circumstances.
2) The musical director on this show deserves an Emmy for this one episode alone. Best. Mood. Music. Ever.
3) Hurley still gets the best lines, the writers clearly love him very much.
4) Desmond: Alien or Jesus? (the actor has played Jesus at least twice already)
5) The "Quarantine" sign kept reading "Most Gross Danger" with a picture of a guy's intestines exploding out of his abdomen inside my head (if you haven't seen the Red Dwarf episode "Quarantine" this will make no sense to you whatsoever).
6) Locke looked like he was going to go the island equivalent of postal on Jack's ass at least twice last night.
7) No boat stuff? No Michael. No Sawyer. :(
8) WTF was up with wet Walter speaking in tongues?!
9) Shannon does the classic blonde stumble in the dark forest and land on her ass thing and I try to chalk it up to an homage or an ironic nod to the horror movie cliche.
10) Kate vanishes and I find myself really not caring.
11) FlashJack really did look like he should be in a band opening for Kajagoogoo, or guest starring on Miami Vice.
12) Did I mention Desmond had the dreamiest Scottish accent?
13) Next week's teaser was decidedly unhelpful.
So over all a big thumb's up, you felt like the months between episodes kind of evaporated and you fell right back into the story as if it had never been interrupted. I'm glad the writing remains some of the tightest and most enigmatic on t.v., I'd been a little afraid that this season might not be able to live up to the last. My fears were totally unwarranted.

Date: 2005-09-22 05:23 pm (UTC)HAH! This name popped into my head this morning as likely being the narrator, too. Vindication! :)

*snicker* That though it did cross my mind at least once...

Next week: boat, no island.

I'm still withholding judgement on that until there's a few more episodes under Season 2's belt. :}

Date: 2005-09-22 06:42 pm (UTC)That was me in the season ender yelling, "She said 'boy', not 'baby', BOY! They're after Walt!" :)

Date: 2005-09-22 06:38 pm (UTC)He said, "I have something they want", but I couldn't catch the second bit as it was after 11 and I didn't want to make my neighbors bang on the wall to tell me to turn down the TV. I'm going to see if I can get it tonight... Unless someone else already has figured it out.

Date: 2005-09-22 08:58 pm (UTC)I should have said 'I think he said'. I turned the TV way up and listened real close while watching Walt's lips. It sounded like they'd done some speed/volume shifting to the words. I am really sure that's what he said but I could be wrong. I still have the episode on my Tivo and I'm planning on going back and seeing if I can figure it out.
Checking the TWoP forums, people heard a lot of different things. I'm usually pretty good at figuring this stuff out. We'll see what I can come up with tonight.
